I like hybridity and I like mixing up, but I'm not a fan of multiculturalism anymore," 1 says Han... more I like hybridity and I like mixing up, but I'm not a fan of multiculturalism anymore," 1 says Hanif Kureishi, a bright star in the firmament of British post-colonial fiction, who wrote both the screenplay for Udayan Prasad's film My Son the Fanatic (1997) and the short story on which it is based. Is Kureishi's disbelief in multiculturalism's mission manifested in the film he co-created in the 1990s? How do family, race, religious conflict, cultural differences, individual and group identities interact? In what manner does the film reflect the divide between the first-and second-generation Pakistani immigrants to Britain? In addition to racial marginalization, what other forms of oppression can we identify?
