CHICAGO, IL – The underdogs once against prevailed as the Evansville Purple Aces netted a golden goal in the second overtime of a back-and-forth match versus No. 2 seed Valparaiso.
The first half began with both teams finding their way on the board within the first 15 minutes. The Purple Aces found the back of the net first as Alex Eyler converted her second goal of the season off a rebound.
However, the equalizer came quickly as Valparaiso scored off a corner kick from Kelsie James that found Nicole Norfolk before Addy Joiner finished the play.
The second half was full of action, but neither team found the back of the net and this left the score at 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes. The 1-1 line held throughout the first 10-minute overtime, but an Evansville strike in the second OT period beat the Beacons' keeper and gave them a 2-1 golden goal victory.
The Purple Aces now turn their focus towards the championship match. While the Beacons finish their season with a record of 10-5-2.
