- Us neither. V-Cred stands for "Vel Credit" where "Vel" is Latin for "Alternative". We started ideating in the alternative credit check space with the aspiration to bridge the financing gap for the underserved MSMEs. Through a series of events, for better or for worse, we stumbled into the AI space and have been around since. It has been a privilege to meet so many inspiring individuals along our journey. Taking a breather here to remind all founders out there that sometimes it's not about how far we have to go, sometimes it's also about how far we have come. The results may not show, but you will know how much you have changed as a person, and let that be enough. To the moon!

I didn't think of using AI when ideating Beseek, now an AI-first startup. I started learning and building AI since GPT3, just before the world mesmerised with #ChatGPT (which is essentially GPT3.5)๐ That's my answer to Alvin Ng's question on how/why I decided to build an AI startup, as he moderates the finale of MYStartup Failing Forward Night. A similar answer from other panelists May Law and Khairul Anwar Mohamad Zaki too. We all start with a problem to solve and as we start looking for solutions, ๐ค AI seems to be a suitable tech. That's the best way to choose a tech stack anyway. Don't build an AI startup just for the sake of following the trend or hype. I am honoured to share the floor with co-founders of V-Cred and Pandai in my first panelist experience. Thanks to all that attend to hear our failings and lesson learnt in building our #startups. Had the pleasure of attending the great PETRONAS Innovation Garage (PING) Open Day yesterday! While there were many great startups present, two in particular caught my eye: V-Cred and FarmDirect.my. Catching up with May Law and speaking with both Nian Wei Tan and Ahmad Rais Abdul Razak really showed how far the team has come over the last year. V-Cred's current focus on helping corporates create seamless workflows via established knowledge bases (whether it be legal, engineering, etc.) using a highly versatile platform to save both significant time and cost is a large pivot from their first concept, and shows the team's commitment to building something truly valuable. While it may not be the sexiest thing out in the market, V-Cred has a highly practical platform that demonstrates clear value - this, paired with the team's focus on refining their problem-solution fit and clear plans on taking their product to the next level, has me highly optimistic for their team being one everyone should keep an eye out for. Also a special shoutout to Nian Wei for teaching me something about prompt engineering while creating an AI that outsmarted me (on the "easy" setting (๊ฆเบด ๊ณ๊ฆเบต )). Meanwhile, Yujing Wong's approach to empowering farmers through FarmDirect was also fascinating to hear about. What impressed me in his approach is that he doesn't use a single, "headline" product - having seen that no single solution was sufficient through his prior studies carried out with farms. Rather, he has looked at a practical route of optimizing each part of the process, ranging from IoT to regenerative agriculture, all the way through to the supply chain, to both help farmers while ensuring food security. It's why I'm so excited to see where both him and FarmDirect.my go from here. Both FarmDirect.my and V-Cred are looking for partners to help them grow across SEA, and I believe both teams have what it takes to make it big - so if what they do is relevant to you, please do get in touch with them! - Thanks for the mention, it was good to see you again!
