Red Ash: Gearworld (original) (raw)

Red Ash: Gearworld is a pretty average to be fair.

Story: 6

The biggest annoyance of the story for me is how fast paced it is. It tries to do too much in a short span of time. There are also a few logical leaps which break my suspension of disbelief.

The concept of the anime however, is rather interesting. If done with better pacing, then this would be a rather compelling anime.

Art: 9

Unique art style which is visually interesting, detailed backgrounds, characters and designs. Few minor issues, likely from it being a YATP. However, can't fault it too much for that so it's a 9 from me... for that.

Sound: 4

Uninteresting but fitting, the music doesn't have much depth to it but is appropriate for the scenes where it's used and the sci-fi backdrop of the short film.

Character: 5

I like some things and I dislike some things. The pacing as mentioned under story has lead to a few leaps in plot - but it also lead to a leap in how characters interact which makes me shake my head in confusion.

However, the characters develop their personality through actions rather than words, which is great. Having to explain a personality is one of the worst things an anime can do to show character. Small things the characters do also help the plot and development on at the same time, so is also pretty nice.

Enjoyment: 7

For all it's quirks, the enjoyment of this series comes from the concept, ways the characters are shown at the beginning and most of all the art. It is thoroughly entertaining for the 20 minutes it was around. Loses points here for leaving a few plot threads open since it doesn't have a sequel.
