Its mission: to raise "Death Scythes" for the Shinigami to wield against the many evils of their fantastical world. These Death Scythes, however, are not made from physical weapons; rather, they are born from human hybrids who have the ability to transform their bodies into Demon Weapons, and only after they have consumed the souls of 99 evil beings and one witch's soul.Soul Eater Evans, a Demon Scythe who only seems to care about what's cool, aims to become a Death Scythe with the help of his straight-laced wielder, or meister, Maka Albarn. The contrasting duo work and study alongside the hot headed Black☆Star and his caring weapon Tsubaki, as well as the Shinigami's own son, Death the Kid, an obsessive-compulsive dual wielder of twin pistols Patty and Liz. Soul Eater follows these students of Shibusen as they take on missions to collect souls and protect the city from the world's threats while working together under the snickering sun to become sounder in mind, body, and soul.[Written by MAL Rewrite]Related Entries Soul Eater MALxJapan -More than just anime- Characters & Voice Actors Staff Episode Videos Episode 51 Episode 50 Episode 49 Episode 48Reviews Oct 6, 2024 When I first watched it, I couldn't stop. The comedy wasn't poor most of the time (main culprit of bad jokes from Blair) and the world and characters are super engaging and one of a kind. Only in Soul Eater can you have a character who suffers from Symmetry OCD and every joke regarding it to be as humorous as the last. The voice acting performances are all amazing and bleed personality through their delivery, giving the show even more life than before. Soul Eater is a marvel for its time and still holds up well today in its animation and style. The music fits... the show and vibe perfectly thanks to Taku Iwasaki's spectacular style. The rating would be a solid contender for the top ranks if not for the changes this show makes during its final stretch. Deviating from the source material seems to always end it disaster as far as I've seen. And I remember feeling disappointed, confused, and downright angry at the ending of Soul Eater for the ridiculous shit it tries to pull. Nevertheless, it still is a recommendable watch for just how unique it is, and I have zero issues experiencing the anime all the way through, especially knowing that the manga exists to give me real closure. After reading the manga, I have to say this show had so much potential and deserves a remaster like Fullmetal Alchemist. GO READ THE PERFECT EDITION MANGA! Action is pretty good. The concept itself is Interesting, and the show opens strong and closes pretty good. But holy moly is the middle of this show a snore fest.... Episodes 20ish to 40ish were so hard to keep watching, there wasn't anything major going on, and if it was, it was hard to get invested. The writing at times seems all over the place, and inconsistent throughout the show. Also, the opening is way too horny, the rest of the show isn't anywhere close to the levels of down bad... the first like 10 or so episodes are. It's really off-putting and makes it hard to recommend other people watch it... Reviewer’s Rating: 6 What did you think of this review? The concept of students at Death City training to become Death Scythes was intriguing, and the characters seemed poised for a thrilling adventure. However, as the series progressed, it unfortunately veered off course, leaving many viewers feeling disappointed. One of the most glaring issues was the underutilization of powerful side characters. Characters like Death the Kid, a skilled swordsman, and Maka Albarn, a formidable wielder of a soul, often found themselves relegated to the sidelines, their potential unrealized. The fact that a young student,... with limited experience, was able to defeat a formidable foe that even Death itself had failed to conquer, felt both illogical and unsatisfying. While Black Star's character arc was a highlight, it was overshadowed by the lackluster development of the main protagonist, Maka Albarn. Her character seemed stagnant, lacking the depth and growth expected of a lead. It was frustrating to see her overshadowed by other characters, particularly Black Star, who, despite his flaws, exhibited more significant character development. In conclusion, Soul Eater started strong but ultimately faltered due to its inconsistent pacing, underdeveloped characters, and a disappointing conclusion. While the series had potential, its execution left much to be desired. Reviewer’s Rating: 5 What did you think of this review?
