Devoid of emotion and conscience, these powerful killers have come to be known as Contractors. But most people know nothing of the Contractors in their midst, and high-schooler Kana Shinoh is no exception. Still struggling to pick up the pieces after her father's death last year, Kana has never troubled herself with the rumors about Hell's Gate. That is, until she spots her father in the street one day. Determined to prove her father is still alive, Kana begins her search, but her mission is attracting some rather dangerous attention. Fortunately, she is rescued from the clutches of death by Hei, the most wanted Contractor in Tokyo. Though he is unsympathetic to her situation, Hei agrees to protect her as she searches for her father. But just how much should she trust the Contractor known as the Black Reaper?(Source: Yen Press)Background_Darker than Black: Kuro no Keiyakusha_ was published in English by Yen Press on June 15, 2010 in a 2-in-1 omnibus edition.Related Entries Darker than Black: Kuro no Keiyakusha Darker than Black: Shikkoku no Hana MALxJapan -More than just anime- Characters Reviews Apr 3, 2011 Well...What can i say? I haven't wrote a review in a while and i'm not that good at them, but i will try.As long as i can remember the most important thing about this manga is that it has nothing to do with the anime! There is another manga that (i think) folllows the story of the anime. The art is...well for me it's bad :D All the pages are blue and all...But there are only 9 chapters so you will survive it ^.^ Reviewer’s Rating: 7 What did you think of this review? There’s a guy whose power is controlling water, and Yin is somehow nowhere to be found(!?). For a S1 side story that has Mao and Huang in it, that’s kind of…unacceptable??That aside, the story was alright, I guess. Even season 2 haters would probably put that story ahead of this one though. I’m glad I picked this up for cheap, and it’s certainly a Darker than Black style story (I thought the art was fine personally, seems some people didn’t like it very much). The second half gets too chaotic though, ruins the mood that was set... up by the first half, and the main girl of this particular story gets tossed into the background a bit. It got to a point where I wasn’t sure what she was even doing in the story anymore, it seemed like her plot was already finished but she just got dragged along for some reason. If I was watching this as an anime, I’d say the writers didn’t really know how to end it. (You know, season 2 had a similar problem, didn’t it?)To sum up, it’s Darker than Black, I guess. It’s not related to the main anime continuity, just in case I didn’t make that clear enough. And yeah if you like Yin, she does not show up AT ALL. Go figure, who knows what they were thinking. The story was there, but I couldn't bring myself to be very invested in it. The characters were written pretty flatly—even ones that have already had plenty of time to be fleshed out in the anime. I wasn't a huge fan of the art, either; it doesn't resemble the original style in the slightest, and each panel is incredibly hard to follow, which is worrisome considering this is... an adaptation of an action series....Overall, if you're looking for more works set in the Darker than Black universe, you might wanna sit this one out. The plot, which I assume takes place during or before the first season, isn't crucial to your understanding of the series as a whole, doesn't provide any character development for the main cast, and DEFINITELY won't answer any of the burning questions left by the season one finale. But if you're fantasy is to see BK-201 and November 11 duke it out as bishie boys? You're strangely in luck.... Reviewer’s Rating: 4 What did you think of this review?
