Dricam!! (original) (raw)

Dricam!! is a manga that explores the world of drifting through the life of Rin Todoroki, an 18 year old college freshman girl that thinks she hates drift, wants nothing to do with it and just wants to live a normal college live. It gives its readers a fairly deep insight on drift culture, as Rin joins the almost disbanded "automobile club" in displeasure after losing a bet against the club's president, a club that indulges in many (definitely not illegal) drifting "activities" and has a negative image to other students on campus.

Story:
-An wholesome story full of emotions where the best (and worst) of what... drift has to offer is depicted very well, with a little facilitism here and there but it stays very much true to what reality is (all the cars, tracks, events and even irl drift personalities appear in the manga).
The story follows the life of Rin Todoroki and her fellow "automobile club" members into the world of drifting, as they face many challenges and adversities (not only in the track), but they're very serious in improving their skills as drivers, so they practice a lot together in the touge, in order to win competitions and, for the most important things of all, to have fun along the way.

Characters:
-The main characters are the club participants, they are a very small but united group and they all share at least two things in comom: they love everything about cars and the passion for drifting.
Throughout the story everyone has some kind of problems of their own to deal with, but the group always stays strong, so they grow together not just as drivers, but also as people.
The characters and their personalities fit both their roles and story very well.
The side characters have impact in the story, whether they are the automobile club opponents, their counselors, irl drift personalities, family, etc, they aren't just extras to the story.

Art:
-This aspect surprisingly fits the story very well, its quite versatile because in one hand the cars details are pretty neat, and in the other hand, some characters face reactions are very.. peculiar, to say the least, but overall is very good.

Other aspects:
-The pace is so good for this story, there is time for every little explanation, no rushes, no way too long parts, which is a very good point about this manga that just makes you want to keep reading that next chapter. The setting couldn't be much better for this short story to evolve, and the fact that it's a full colored manga also adds to the reading experience. If you are into cars or not, it doesn't matter, this manga is written in a way that you'll still be able to enjoy the story as much as a car enthusiastic, since there are a couple explanation bubbles for context throughout the chapters.

In conclusion, I totally recommend you to read this manga. If you like reading a good slice of life with car action and a story that'll leave a tear in your eyes with the magnificient ending it has, then this is for you, but if don't like this type of story, give it a try, who knows it might lead to discovering new passions.

This was my first review, thanks for reading.
