MALxJapan -More than just anime- Characters Reviews Mar 16, 2023 It was a Good romance manga, bit of a let down toward the end but a good enough short read. Don't go into it expecting anything crazy, and it'll be a pleasant enough read. The Character's could've been fleshed out more, and the mc felt a little boring. Also the female leads initial motivations are never really revealed. Another problem is that the romance is just meh, to the point where eventually it goes into more slice of life territory. The side characters are also disappointing. They get a lot of screen time, but very little real development. The best compliment that can be given to this... manga is that it is neither terrible, nor outstanding. But towards the middle, it felt like it didn't know what to do with its characters. Or maybe the only character that I found interesting in the end is the MC, and he isn't even that interesting. If the other characters had less presence and were clearly made to be just in the background, it would have been better so the story had more focus on the two main characters. But for some reason, they gave the other characters a whole lot more "screen time" which in the end actually revealed how shallow and indistinct they are. The FMC... initially had promise, implying there's some underlying reason as to her accommodating the MC, but as the story ends, you find that there's nothing there, no explanation to her motivation, which is a big reason why the start of the story even became interesting in the first place.Overall, the story isn't necessarily bad if you approach it as reading slice of life. But if you read it as a romance, it starts good, then ends with you wondering what the heck happened and that a lot of the chapters were pointless. Even reading it as slice of life, at times, you'll be challenged to not think of paint drying as you read it.It's mediocrity at its mediocritest. Let's get into the basics.Story; Kousaka Kimito, an average boy ends up falling in love with a Gyaru girl after looking into her eyes. Thankfully, the Gyaru Miki Ageha is in his class. Without hesitation, he does research on hair styling and clothing just so he can look the part before confessing his love to her in front of the whole class. Without hesitation(de ja vu), she accepts his proposal on dating each-other and the relationship ends... up exceeding both of their expectations. You get to learn about falling in love, what it's like to make friends and how important it is to cherish the people around you. Art; I loved the style at the beginning of the series(gave me a Manhwa feel), but it suddenly went down hill around the second/third volume. Characters; Classic shy boy, hot girl with best friends. They addition I wasn't expecting was how cool the parents were of the two main characters.Overall, I really wanted to enjoy the series but I just ended up a bit disappointed. The flow of it was fine at the beginning, but it ended up getting rushed by the end of it. I wanted to learn a bit more about the families, see how they graduated (what else did the couple do in the two years we basically skipped) and just... SOMETHING more to make me attached to the story. This is a quick series if you just want a quick romance to read and not get attached to. Don't get your hopes up on the pace, random information they throw around and how they just jump a few years of their relationship without warning.
