The Twins' New Life (original) (raw)

Despite the mixed feelings rating I have for this manhwa, The Twins' New Life is definitely worth reading for it's first two seasons. The synopsis may sound like the typical isekai or otome game manga, but the story is actually a lot deeper than that. Depending on your preferences, this may or may not be to your tastes.

The Twins' New Life is a riveting story about twins trying to overcome their harsh past involving abuse and trauma, and slowly learning to trust their new family. The first two seasons of the story are fantastic, exploring a dark and even depressing at times storyline(but also uplifting).... The various characters are well developed(for now, I'll get to that); The complex emotions and thought process of the protagonists Arienne and Arhen portray the fear and despair the children have had in their past as well as their new foreign environment. Despite the isekai notion, the twins can be thought of more as young children with a more "mature" thought process. At the very least, if you are able to stomach some dark themes, the you should definitely read this.

The reason this is mixed however mainly has to do with the last season/ending. Without delving into spoilers or anything, the last section just tapers off. Most of the characters now feel stagnant, and the feel for the manhwa is more like a typical romcom. The ending leaves various plotpoints left unexplored, and also includes one of my most hated trope: loss of memory. Unlike the first two parts of the manhwa, turning off your brain would make this section easier to read. Personally, I like romcoms and I do indulge myself in some generic isekais, but this section in contrast to the first two gave me whiplash. I would say most people probably would want to stop before the third season.

Overall, the first two seasons by themselves would be a 9 or 10 in my books, so I recommend to read them at least. Third season is up to you, lowered my score by one, but to some others it can feel as if it "ruined" the story or so.
