However, that all changes, when he rescues a stray black cat he names Kuro. Seemingly an ordinary feline, Mahiru is taken aback when it transforms into a person! It turns out that Kuro is an outlandishly lazy and sluggish centuries-old vampire who does not drink blood and finds any kind of activity bothersome.Unbeknownst to him, the one thing Mahiru should not do is say Kuro's name aloud, but he does exactly that. It forms a bond between the two, meaning Kuro could become Mahiru's servant vampire—a "servamp." But as fate would have it, after a vicious attack arranged by a vampire called Tsubaki, Kuro drinks Mahiru's blood, thus sealing the deal, making Mahiru his master—"Eve."The mysterious vampire Tsubaki reveals Kuro's real name: Sleepy Ash, the sloth and oldest sibling of seven—each representing one of the deadly sins. Tsubaki, as the forgotten eighth brother representing "melancholy," wages war against all vampires and humans. To prevent bloodshed, Mahiru and Kuro now have to alert the rest of the servamps and their Eves before it is too late.[Written by MAL Rewrite]Background_Servamp_ has been published in English by Seven Seas Entertainment since March 17, 2015 and in Polish by Studio JG since June 2, 2015.Related Entries Servamp Servamp Movie: Alice in the Garden MALxJapan -More than just anime- Characters Reviews Aug 14, 2015 RecommendedPreliminary (7/? eps) This review may contain some spoilers. If you aren't looking for the usual vampire stories then this is your manga. Servamp changes some things in the story like vampires are serving humans and they aren't turning into bats, but instead of that they are turning into cats or butterflies. There are 7 servamps and each of them symbolize some kind of human attribute. ( i don't know if it's proper in english, but i mean the things like sloth, anger, etc.. )Story: 8/10One day Mahiru finds a black cat and he decides to take care of it. The following day the cat turned into a human... in looks but actually he was a vampire. Mahiru named him Kuro and because of that they actually made a contract and Kuro became his Servamp.Art: 8/10The art is a little bit confusing but it not really bothers the look. In the manga the art sometimes look cute and sometimes really serious. The fights are especially good. So well done for the author and i really like the chibi looking parts :)Characters: 9/10The characters are one of the best parts of the manga. The two main characters are totally opposite of each other.Kuro: He is a very lazy vampire who is often called NEET in the manga because he not really likes leaving the house. He not really likes doing anything. He finds problem in anything and always trying to avoid everything. Personally i really like his character and he is so much fun :)Mahiru: As i said before he is the perfect opposite of Kuro. He helps everyone and he tries to do everything what he is capable of and often more. He often fight with Kuro but they are really close "friends".Enjoyment: 8/10It's really enjoyable, unfortunately there aren't many chapters out yet, so i cannot really say anything about it in long range, but it looks interesting and i am looking for it's continuation.Overall: 8/10It's really good manga but short, so if you have 2-3 hours of free time you should definitely read it. It will get an anime adoption soon.So overall i liked it very much and you should give it a try too.Thank you for reading my review and please send me your thoughts about it! I'm gonna try not to be too biased here because I've loved Servamp for a long time and it has a special place in my heart, so rambling is plausible and I apologize:)) okay here we goStory: when I had heard of Servamp, I went and watched the anime and left it at that; there wasn't anything special, and the story was odd and didn't... make much sense. I don't remember how I decided to read the manga but I think I rewatched the anime and one of my friends told me that the manga was better, and so I read it and yeah, they were correct. Servamp is one of those stories that gets involved rather quickly, which could be hard to catch on for some people, which is why I'm rating it an 8 story wise. I'm completely caught up with the chapters, but it's kinda jumbled right now going back and forth between perspectives and etc (currently at chapter 102.) The contrast between the anime and manga is that the anime left out a whole arc between the first season and the movie, and it slapped one of those "fake endings" on the last episode since the manga was nowhere close to being done, and I guess it didn't get enough hype for a second season. The movie is even altered because that arc was supposed to be between episodes 5 and 6 so they added in characters originally not in it and it literally didn't make sense at all. Long story short, the anime ended around chapter 40 of the manga, but left out a whole arc in between. Read the Servamp manga first if u wanna watch the anime:) The story arcs develop the characters SO nicely, even though the main story is hard to grasp to. Art: This shouldn't be as difficult as the story section was lol. The art for the Servamp manga is really pretty in my opinion. I've been following Strike Tanaka's artwork from the manga and on her twitter account, and she does a really good job. I absolutely love the character designs because of how unique they are and the artwork on some pages where fights are involved is beautiful. It's not very difficult to tell what's going on, which is a problem in some other manga when there is just too much on one page. The art is also fairly consistent, but gets better and better as the newer chapters come out.Character: I can't say as much as I'd like here because there is just so much going on with every character and y'know spoilers, there are a lot of em. I think that the characters in Servamp are all very unique. Not many of them are bland, if any, especially since we have gotten to see some of the side characters more in action in the past 20 chapters or so, plus a couple new ones that have been introduced! As I said before, the character designs are all so different and I happen to like them a lot- even Mahiru who's the simplest, but that's who he is. I believe that Strike put good amounts of thought into these character's designs to match their personality and past, and the servamp's as their respected sin (psst, the 8 servamp's represent one of the 7 deadly sins plus melancholy.) This aspect of the character I think is really cool, even though it's not unique as it's in Fullmetal Alchemist, Seven Deadly Sins, and others I assume, but the fact that they have animal counterparts is a great spin on it. Altogether, I'm giving the characters a 9, just because some characters could have a little more focus on them.Enjoyment: Y'all I don't write reviews often so I can't not bias this one much, but I will say that my favorite anime genre is supernatural and like vampires/demons and Servamp has got you covered on that if you're like me. I also really enjoy how most characters have gotten great development so far, and they're still adding new characters but aren't forgetting about old ones, especially the antagonist who has completely changed from the beginning of the story and some traitors and etc... it's also nice how Strike doesn't hesitate to kill off characters either, but don't worry too much :) Overall: Again, biased, favorite manga, and I absolutely recommend reading Servamp. It's so underrated and I bet that if it had more exposure it'd be more popular than it currently is. And remember to watch the anime after reading <3 Reviewer’s Rating: 10 What did you think of this review? A basic synopsis of the plot is as follows: Mahiru, a kind if somewhat occasionally short tempered 15 year old boy decides to take in a stray cat off the street. After coming home from school, he find the cat is actually a vampire, specifically a 'servamp'; a vampire able to form a contract with, and serve a human master.Main character then gains powers and discovers new supernatural world, ect cetera. The art is nice, and the character designs are... easy to tell them apart. Expressions and inking is great, though it can get a little dialogue heavy in later chapters. Overall, the story is a little lackluster, but it has a decent premise, and the world building is done well, re-using elements introduced earlier in the story. The characters are all indviduals; it's hard to specifically hate any of them, as wacky, or in some cases, downright evil they might first appear. In fact, the villains are some of my favouirte characters. Mahiru can be a little generic at times with how resolutely he sticks with the approach of peace, but is a generally enjoyable character; he acts, not reacts, and has a discernible motive, which immediately makes him a 'Decent Character'. The pacing flows well, and I never felt like I was lost. An enjoyable supernatural manga that's both light and serious at the same time. Definitely recommend.
