25saix's Profile - MyAnimeList.net (original) (raw)

I am just a person that enjoys anime for the most part. MAL is a good way to keep track of them. I actually take the ratings somewhat seriously. I unlike many people on the site actually try to follow MAL guidelines for the ratings. That means for example a 6 rating means an anime is fine or ok rather than bad. I would say 5 means mediocre and anything lower is bad. I don't have a large sample size for 4 or below so those ratings are probably more inconsistent. I try to watch shows I think would enjoy like most people(I'd hope) so most shows I rate positively. I also rarely give out 10s since I think it should be reserved for masterpieces that really stood out to me. Admittedly almost all my current 10s are from my early anime watching days so I guess big nostalgia bias there.

In general my ratings are based on overall quality and enjoyment with enjoyment being the most important factor by far although I do try to acknowledge and give weight to shows that I think have merit even if I didn't enjoy them. I tend to rate based on the overall package rather than on specific factors like animation quality, sound design, characters and such. Admittedly my ratings are inconsistent and I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up changing the ratings for over half the shows I watched if I ever re-watched them. I also tend to put my thoughts and/or dumb comments in the tag line.

Also I don't read that much manga or light novels as I prefer to watch anime. That along with forgetting to list a lot of the manga I have read means my manga list is rather barren. These days I tend to seek out shows that are more unique or subvert your expectations somehow. A lot of anime often feel too similar after having watched so many. Overall though I think there's still many good anime coming out each season so I certainly don't think anime quality is declining.

I definitely overdid it on this description. Congratulations if you actually read this. Feel free to send me messages or friend requests. I welcome debate on my dumb opinions.
