Just saying:
- Preferring J-pop doesn't mean I have to love Yoasobi or Radwimps
- Preferring Japanese food doesn't mean I have to love Sushi or Ramen
- Preferring Japanese culture doesn't mean I have to give a shit about Nyotaimori

It's indeed I love philosophical and deep Anime but that doesn't mean I only care about that aspect. Story, characters, narration, animation, pacing, they are actually the crucial factors I consider when judging an Anime.

Kaiba's first half actually is strong tho. Dark elements, subtle twists, deep themes getting explored in fascinating ways. I have my eyes bawled out on Chroniko and Vanilla episodes, especially when the Tree song melody starts kicking in. But sadly, this Anime doesn't keep its consistency towards the end. Everything post ep 8 is completely messy to me and the final ep is pure mediocre, like the author doesn't know to wrap things up after all the buildup in the previous eps.

Hope my answer satisfies your concern.
