JadeMatrix's Profile - MyAnimeList.net (original) (raw)

I've been expecting a Boku wa Tomodachi anime announcement for quite some time now since I like the manga a lot and it seemed like it would make a good anime, it's sort of similar to Seitokai no Ichizon.
I dropped the manga in favour of the anime though, unless the studio turns out to be terrible. Hoping for anything other than J.C.Staff or Deen.

As for the my season, from your list I think we're watching almost completely different shows ^^ I'm currently watching (although I haven't listed most of them yet) Maria Holic, Tiger & Bunny, Ano Hana, Hanasaku Iroha, Nichijou, A-Channel, Kaiji 2, Deadman Wonderland, Sengoku Otome and Denpa Onna. I put Astarotte and Steins;Gate down as maybes (depending on final scores and/or BD batches) and I will wait for batches of Hen Zemi and Azazel, maybe.

I watched the first few episodes of practically everything though, so here are some opinions (warning, long):

Ao no Exorcist had a good first episode but I don't think I'd want to follow it till the end, it didn't really interest me. Still looks like a decent show, so if you're into the story I can see why you like it.

Nichijou is pretty ridiculous, actually. It's like a weird mix between Azumanga Daioh and Seto no Hanayome (both of which I liked a lot) and I find it quite fun. You definitely need to be in a certain state of mind to watch it, since it's pretty out there and some of the jokes fall flat.

C I found boring after the second episode. There doesn't really seem to be anything there. I don't think I'll regret not continuing it. It doesn't help that I think the director is a pretentious douchebag who I believe thinks that art>story, which is kind of ironic? since the art in C is pretty bad.

Hyouge Mono I sort of spaced out on, I was not in the mood for whatever it is and sort of just gave up on it right away. I was already watching a ton of shows anyway and it doesn't seem to be getting any good publicity so meh...

Steins;Gate might suffer from Chaos;Head syndrome, which is why I haven't even watched the first episode. I will wait and see how it does in the end and marathon if it turns out to be recommended and/or highly scored.

Maria Holic is more of the same, which isn't bad at all. I just wish Commie would get off their asses and get up to date on it.

Kaiji 2 ditto, except swap Commie for Triad, I don't know why I started it already, since it's such a cliffhanger show, but I did and I don't know if I can stop watching it ^^

Ano Hana is the best show of the season, followed by Hanasaku Iroha (and then Denpa Onna). Both are slice of life with some key differences but they are just so extremely well produced it's hard to not get sucked into them. Ano Hana has a goal though, so it's not a pure slice of life.

Deadman Wonderland surprised me, I expected a kind of shitty shounen with some blood but it's exciting and short (i.e. 13 eps) and I dig it. It's not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination but it's still fun to watch. I'm not sure how I feel about the blood powers since the show was doing fine without them but we'll see. Apparently the manga readers hate it and since you hate it, maybe you can explain it to me.

Denpa Onna is very Shaft. That's all there is to say about it. They've gotten very efficient at making entertaining and/or funny shows with pleasing art and audio and this is no different. Also, dat OP.

I started watching Sengoku Otome because of some of the absurd humour, which has sort of disappeared in later episodes. It's the one "shitty" show I'm watching, so it's all good.

A-Channel is kind of fun, it's kind of like a relaxed version of your standard 4-girl anime, since there aren't a whole lot of jokes and the pacing is very slow. It also features

dat voice getting her boobs punched, so that's cool.

Tiger & Bunny might turn out to be pretty bad in the end since the story is kind of dragging on but it's nice to see the future of product placement.

I watched some other shows but they aren't really worth any comments. All in all, excellent season. Too bad it looks like the summer season is going to be terrible...
