ManWild's Profile - MyAnimeList.net (original) (raw)
Some Info:
Hello. I am Manwild! As it can be easily assumed, I'm a fan of anime and manga and my favorite series include titles such as One Piece and Gintama. I am a Half-Canadian/Half-Japanese individual who currently lives in Canada and I started watching/reading before I could even remember.... I have never looked back ever since and I plan on continuing since it's something that's brought me a lot of joy over the years. Outside of the world of anime, I am a massive football/soccer (⚽) fan and really really love the sport. I support Manchester United as well as the Canadian and Japanese National Teams.
I spend a lot of my time here on the forums so there is a high chance I will be seen there!!

My Rating System
Note: If I give an anime or a manga series you like a low score... sorry. There are just some things I simply didn't enjoy and I would rather be honest so please forgive me and don't take it to heart.
10/10- Part of ManWild's SOUL : A permanent all time favorite that I'll love until the day I die. I don't see myself giving any of these anything other than a 10. Despite my high completed count, I rarely give 10/10’s and that’s because a 10/10 to me has to be more than just a perfect story without any flaws. When it comes to a 10/10, it has to affect me on a personal and emotional level and of course on top of that it has to have a great story, great characters, AT LEAST have solid enough production and is brilliantly written in my eyes. If it's missing a few points that I just stated, my enjoyment and connection to the series would have to be so high to the point where it outweighs any flaws or drawbacks that the narrative may hold. Basically a series that is attached to my heart and just the thought of it brings me joy
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Example: The fourth season of Gintama
9/10- Amazing: Something that I rate a nine is an anime that I love with all my heart and enjoyed watching it. Some of my nines can be called masterpieces narratively and some of them may even be good enough to be considered "special" for me but the things that set it back are either the anime didn’t stick with me as time passes (when compared to the 10s), Inconsistent moments or few drawbacks that my tens didn't have or upon rewatching I enjoyed it a little bit less. Either those or it needs to be a little bit stronger in terms of writing or my personal enjoyment simply wasn't at "10 level." Regardless, I absolutely adore all of these and hold very strong positive feelings. Keep in mind that due to the extremely rarity that I give 10/10’s, A 9/10 is considered to be very very very good and even possible favorites and things I hold closely to my heart despite not being at the very pinnacle.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Example: Bakemonogatari
8/10- Great: An incredible anime that I loved watching and rate very highly. I usually have trouble choosing between 7/10,8/10 and 9/10 for ratings so some entries may or may not be closer to other ratings. I love all my eight's as much as I love my nines or my high sevens so keep that in mind. Despite having possible rare and minor flaws every now and then, It can also be a very small step down either storytelling wise, less consistency, fails to stay as memorable or I didn't enjoy it as much as a nine. That being said, almost all of these still bring me nothing but happiness and just thinking of them can bring brighten my day. I would gladly rewatch almost all my eights.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Example: Death Note
7/10- Good: Although there is a possibility that it can have flaws story wise or I didn't enjoy it as much as the anime in the "eights" section, at the end of the day I enjoyed watching it and I’m very happy I put time into it. Although there could have been some flaws or inconsistency, the positives of the anime heavily outweigh the negatives and overall made it an enjoyable and fun watch. For some people a 7/10 is considered to be a bad score but for me, I still adore and love all my 7/10's but simply just not as much as anything higher. 7.5 series (such as Hanamonogatari and Maoujou de oyasumi for example) are ones that I actually really really like and are very close to being an 8 but is just missing that small little push to enter.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Example: Bleach (Season 1)
6/10- Above Average: There are aspects I loved but some aspects I thought could be improved on, whether it’s the story, the characters, the visuals etc. (or maybe just my enjoyment) At the end of the day it still had more positives than negatives making it still a good experience and I still had a solid and possibly even memorable time watching most of these and I consider these to be worth my time and I think they are above average but are lacking the greatness of anything that is rated 7+. 6.5 series (such as 5-toubun season 1) are ones that I actually enjoyed a good amount but just fell short in one or so categories. Once again, Anything in the 6/10-7/10 range may be bad for some people, but I do not consider any of these to be bad by any means and I did find a decent amount of value during my watch.
Do I love a 6/10? Probably not.
Do I hate it? Absolutely not.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Example: Solo Leveling Season 1
5/10- Average: Narrative wise and/or personal enjoyment wise it's simply average. I usually forget about these anime until they are mentioned in a conversation (or anything along those lines) and there are aspects I liked but there are moments in the anime that set it back from being higher than it could have. It’s far from awful but far from perfection. The negatives and positives outweigh each other which ultimately, makes for an experience that fails to keep me engaged 100% of the way through. Also the majority of the recap specials I’ve seen go in here and that’s because it doesn’t really add anything new and whether I enjoyed it or not I don’t wanna give it too high but giving it less than a 5 would also be kind of disrespectful so I keep it as average. I don't think I'll rewatch anything 5 or under but there can be some exceptions. Some 5’s are closer to 6’s than others.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Example: Kakegurui
4/10- Below Average: Not awful but below average. I thought the anime had a few good ideas and a few good things but I had a few issues with it whether it's the presentation, pacing, characters or anything along those lines that set it back from being higher and staying as “below average.” I don't hate any of these and I may or may not still respect them as stories but I probably wouldn't rewatch my 4s nor would I find great happiness in thinking back on them. Most of my 4’s are kind of in a weird position because I don’t hate them but I just can’t bring myself to give it a higher score.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Example: Dragon Ball GT
3/10- Bad: It may have it's appeal and I may see why some enjoy it and It wasn't the worst thing on earth and it was watchable but personally I didn't enjoy it much and got pretty bored during it or it had issues in it's actual story. It might have had good ideas, good moments and promising parts but at the end of the day it didn't deliver what it could have and I had far more negatives to say than positives. Starting from the threes, the chances of rewatching any of these are like 1%-5%. A sign that helps me identify a three is when I feel happier when I finally finish (cause it's finally over with) than when I'm actually watching the content provided.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Example: Edens Zero
2/10- Very Bad/ Close to being unwatchable: Extremely boring, uninteresting and not worth the time. I don't usually drop anime so I'll still finish but regardless, I still disliked watching it and quite honestly disliked the anime itself. There can be some positives and even if there are it is pretty much unenjoyable with the crazy amount of negatives. Usually with my 2’s there is some value or I saw at least a little bit and some stuff that set it back from being a 1/10 but obviously I wasn’t a huge fan of the story overall. It can still be worse but I feel as if my time was wasted. I won’t ever rewatch any of these for sure.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Example: Ex-arm
1/10- Pretty much unwatchable: There wasn’t anything interesting about it and it had pretty much no positives or value to me whatsoever. On the off chance that it does have positives, The sheer amount of boredom or disgust I received from the series just outweighs the positives to the point where it’s not even funny. For the very large majority of my 1/10s, just the thought of these are enough to make me feel like throwing up from just how terrible or unbearably they are. I was either bored to death, confused, annoyed and showed no interest in anything that happened. I didn’t have enjoyment watching any of it and narrative wise, the story is lacking and tiresome and I have nothing good to say about it. Literally has no value. Thankfully, I don't try spamming 1 stars but I will 100% give them out if it’s truly necessary and I strongly think it’s a necessary option.
Example: Tenkuu Danzai Skelter Heaven
[*] Unrated- Unless it's One Piece, I usually keep everything I'm currently watching as unrated

More Additional Information
- On my list I added tags for every anime I watched and I gave my thoughts on the anime and why I rated it a certain score. I have lots and lots of things to say about series such as One Piece whether that’s praise or qualms making it so I occasionally can’t fit my full thoughts in the tags but for the very large majority, I still write in enough detail for all my anime so you can at least see why I gave it that certain score.
