Nurguburu's Profile - MyAnimeList.net (original) (raw)

I didn’t watch Yuri on Ice either, it’s also not really my thing and I haven’t had amazing reviews from gay men I know irl, but I know how much it was loved and talked about at the time. I enjoyed Banana Fish but the moment that

the guy with pink hair died

I think I started finding it all overly dramatic for the sake of it (also he was also the only character I was invested in) so I stopped watching. I might give it another go because I’ve heard so many mixed opinions about it. I remember I cried while reading Given, I didn’t like the anime much because I didn’t like the singing in it lol, but I enjoyed the manga more than I expected to.

I had a similar problem getting invested in CGDGC, I didn’t watch it at all as a teenager partly because I thought it was a genre for perverts or boring people. I’m more openminded about it now, lol. I think a big part of it is the appeal towards people who are attracted to women and because we don’t have that it just feels shallow a lot of the time. I’d much rather watch an action series with an interesting well written female lead than CGDCT, but I guess that’s just personal preference. I also tend to be more into it if it’s guys, but then I guess that’s obvious if I’m gay lol.

I felt BL authors care much more than GL authors. I know they did something good if they made felt many emotions in a single genre like with others genres I like.

I think you put this perfectly.

I watched the og cardfight vanguard series when I was a kid and rewatched some of it recently. It’s your standard 2000s card fighting shounen anime, but you might find it interesting that the first season accidently works as a metaphor for a gay coming of age story.

Thanks for writing back! This was fun
