Umi no Triton

The TV series is based on a manga by Osamu Tezuka. This anime marks the directorial debut of Yoshiyuki Tomino (best known as the creator of Gundam). The anime altered plot points, characters, including the ending that differed significantly from the original manga.

The theatrical movie trilogy is a re-edited version of the original TV series. Each of the three films is largely made up of old footage from the TV series, but Tomino felt that some things could be changed for the better.

Densetsu Kyojin Ideon

The TV series was created and directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, produced immediately following his signature work, Mobile Suit Gundam. Originally, the series was planned to be 43 episodes long, but was cancelled after only 39 episodes were aired. However, the remaining four episodes were modified and expanded into the sequel movie The Ideon: Be Invoked (1982).
