The aim of the present work is to evaluate the morphometric and morphotectonic parameters along with prioritization for soil erosion and water availability in Chite Lui watershed. Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) is a useful approach to find out soil erosion and ground water potential zone with an aim to achieve successful management of a watershed. It helps to examine the susceptibility zone in watershed. The present paper documents the delineation of 14 sub-watersheds in Chite Lui River at 3rd order stream. Its prioritization has been performed using several morphometric parameters namely drainage density, elongation ratio and many other parameters using Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP). Sub-watersheds are ranked from 1–14 based on soil erosion and groundwater potential zones. The Chite Lui watershed is a fifth order drainage basin with a total area of 52.7 km2. The tectonic parameters of the watershed as the asymmetry value is 34%, indicates the structural control over the area either by uplift or tilting. The hypsometric integral value is 0.5 and the valley width height ratio is 0.05 which also suggest tectonic activity in the area. Sinuosity related many parameters along with geomorphic indices like stream power index (SPI), stream gradient index (SL) and topographic wetness index (TWI) were also calculated to suggest the watershed health. The present paper shows that the morphometric analysis is highly relevant and efficient in delineating susceptibility zones.

The six sub-catchments namely A to F of Mat Watershed were analysed in the present study and morphometric analysis was carried out by using the Arc GIS software and SRTM Digital Elevation Model (DEM). The geographic location of the study area lies between latitudes 230202 03 N to 230312 503 N and longitudes 920442 503 E to 920512 403 E and falls in parts of Survey of India Toposheet numbers 84A/11, 84A/14 and 84A/15 covering an area of 130.51km2. The drainage pattern observed in the study area is trellis, dendritic and parallel in pattern. The drainage density of Upper Mat Watershed is 3.89 km−1 and the Sub-basins B, C, D, E are of high drainage density. The high drainage density is the result of weak or impermeable subsurface material, sparse vegetation and mountaneous (high) relief. The stream frequency in the study area is 5.76 streams/km2, whereas the fourth or...

Occurrence of landslides is very common and frequent phenomenon in hilly terrain of Indian Himala... more Occurrence of landslides is very common and frequent phenomenon in hilly terrain of Indian Himalayan region leading to severe environmental and socio-economic issues. The current research used the method of weighted parameter, Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) for landslide susceptibility mapping in the study area, East Sikkim district of Sikkim Himalaya. The different thematic layers were produced from high-resolution terrain corrected ALOS PALSAR DEM of 12.5 meter spatial resolution, Sentinel-2A data of 10 meter spatial resolution multi-spectral satellite information, LANDSAT 8 multi-spectral satellite information and multiple other landslide-related sources such as rainfall distribution, slope and structural/linear features (faults, thrusts, roads). These thematic map layers were integrated in a GIS platform (ArcGIS10.7) to delineate vulnerable landslide prone zones. The weighted assigned values were used for assigning weightage ranging from 0 to 10 for ...

Here we report on multiple new distribution localities that extend the known geographic range of the species. In addition, we provide new information on the reproductive biology of the species based on egg-laying behavior data from a captive gravid B. reticulata from Mizoram. The simultaneous presence of a second clutch of eight eggs in the oviduct of the female indicates the capacity of the species to exhibit multiple matings and egg clutches during a single reproductive season.
