Many linguists mentioned that socio-pragmatic skills can be developed in a classroom. This skill is essential for L2 learners to master communication in L2, such as how to build and express turn-taking, eye contact, and give attention to the interlocutors. Therefore, this study aims to prove whether Indonesian learners of Japanese could use appropriate socio-pragmatic skills, focusing on Japanese politeness in a conversation setting. The subjects are 120 students from two universities whose level of Japanese skills is on the A2-B1 CERF level. We use the role-play method and set a one-on-one conversation/interview setting. This article examines residents" perceptions of the impacts of tourism development in Bandung Cit... more This article examines residents" perceptions of the impacts of tourism development in Bandung City, Indonesia. The study aims to evaluate the 2009-2013 tourism policy and program"s outcomes. It uses primary data from the qualitative method of interviewing residents. Interviews were conducted in eight Bandung City districts during November 2014 and March 2016. The respondents were chosen based on the understanding that residents often do not represent a homogeneous population (Brunt and Courtney, 1999). Therefore, the respondents were divided into four types. The data analysis is modeled after Ritchie and Spencer (1994)"s framework method. The study found that the citizens" common perception of a socioeconomic impact are business opportunities. The perceived negative socio-cultural impacts was that the use of a local language, Sundanese, was declining due to tourism. The others included vandalism, and the increase of shopping places and culinary places affecting the citizens" lifestyle via consumerism. Concerning local art and culture, type two, three and four respondents confessed that Bandung City tourism lacked cultural attractions. In contrast, type one of respondent admitted that tourism has the effect of reviving local art and culture and that they had experienced acculturation in traditional music. It shows that the local government efforts of promoting cultural tourism does not affect other residents living in other areas. Contribution/Originality: This study is one of very few to investigate the four different types of residents", on their perception of tourism impacts in a city of a developing country. The study found that the understanding of socio-cultural effects is diverse among residents.

The study seeks insights into the information of the community's activities to reduce adverse imp... more The study seeks insights into the information of the community's activities to reduce adverse impacts on Bandung City tourism development. Local communities of Bandung City are making the effective effort for environmentally friendly tourism. In-depth interview was conducted to 4 (four) communities in Bandung City that recognized by Department of Tourism and Culture, Department of Burial and Landscape, and Department of Environmental Management of Bandung City. The study revealed the challenges of communities' activities to reduce the negative impacts of tourism development which has the positive influence in changing behavior of residents. It is also showed that communities were not familiar with the government's tourism program because they have been not involved in making the program for tourism. The primary information in this study is premised on the opinions of the host communities about tourism development in their localities.

National Medium-term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2010-2014 as a basis of local governments in Indone... more National Medium-term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2010-2014 as a basis of local governments in Indonesia in formulated Regional Plan is explaining that sustainable development requires a balance of three primary pillar which are: economic, social and environmental. In related with that, sustainable tourism development describes as development of tourism to gain economic benefit without damaging environment, ecological balance and social needs. Bandung City's Regional Medium-term Development Plan (RPJMD) 2009-2013 provide indicators of tourism development and sustainable development of the city which related to environment conservation. Local governments provide an established program within which to operationalize the indicators of tourism development and sustainable development. This paper examines the extent to which sustainable development of tourism is reflected in the practice and attitudes of local government in Bandung City.
