SO YOU THINK YOUR GOOD ENOUGH?? (original) (raw)

Alright, brief introduction.

My name is Danielle, and I'm on the verge of 23, spontaneous combustion, woe is me.
I ship off for basic training on June 2.

So, my questions are for all the females who have graduated bootcamp in the past year or so.

I just pierced my ears about 3 weeks ago. Will I be allowed to keep small balls in? I hear different thins from different people. Guys tell me, that being female, I will be allowed to wear one set or earings.

Will I be permitted to keep a journal while at bootcamp? I have an almost blank book, will they let me keep it, or make me mail it home?

Will I be permitted to keep my own bible?

Anyone in here currently utilizing the GI Bill? I have a question as to when the money is supposed to reach the account.

I'm to start being paid in Sept. But is it on the 1st of Sept? Or do the days very depending on other circumstances?

Any info would be appreciated.

I was SELRES as an HT3, and i went active several months ago as an OS and was supposed to ship april 10th. But my recruiters suprisingly didnt know the difference between quarter and semester credits in college and confused the difference, the difference in me leaving on that date.(I needed college credits to counteract HS diploma because my High school and the Navy had some beef.) So they renegotiated me in as an RP. An RP is a descent rating, IF you are into hearing peoples problems, sending them to the right place, and helping marines in need and i have nothing against sailors/marines who do this. But when i enlisted over a year ago, i never thought that would be what i'd be doing. im supposed to leave aug. 17th, with this rating, but i was just going to take that shipdate as is, and just get reclassed during training. Saves the time and hassle of recruiters trying to get you to leave as UD, and/or promising you rates...
My question is how good is my chance of getting a deck/technical specialty rating as a reclass? Since they are on demand? Does it depend on their availability or if they are undermanned? Or even how well is it to be reclassed essentially during that period?
Or if there are any RP's out there who have good persuasion skills with their job, any feedback is good. thank you.

Hey - I'm looking at joining the Navy and was wondering if anyone on here has the job "Cryptologic Technician - Interperative"? Essentially, I'm already learning Arabic at University and am looking at joining the Navy... this seemed the best job.

I'd love to talk to someone who is actually doing the job, though, rather than just my recruiter. If you, or anyone you know that'd be ok with me shooting them an e-mail, can help me out, that would be great!

Thanks!

Hello everyone.

This is a very important question. Can you join the Navy with lupus? I have it, it's not in remission, but I REALLY want to join. I an 21 years old and female.

Also, the only job I really want to do is be a PH (photographer's mate). I have some college credits in photography but no high school diploma. I havent even been to se a recruiter yet. Am I even able to join, and can I get these jobs? My boyfriend is in the Navy and has advised against me joining from the get go (but then again he's a cook, I'd want out too). I just really want to do something important, and I am at a lost here.

Well, im thinking about joinin the navy, i remember my dad suggested it and i was like "yeah ok dad" just kind of blowin it off, but then i looked at the site, took the "accelerate your life" deal and was fit for "innovator", well one og the joobs was world languages.

When i saw that i decided to go in, i talked to a recruiter and stuff, cause thats what i want to do, world languages i mean, particularly russian. Well anyway, the recruiter told me that without a high-school diploma i would have to join, and wait two years before i could do that job. But everywhere i look it says i have to have a diploma. I'm wondering if the recruiter was just trying to "make mission" or if he was telling me the truth.

Because thats really the only job I want to do. I can wait two years, happily, if i know i can do it, but if not i'd rather not waste anymore of mine, or the recruiters time.

I figure its better to ask here than to come straight out and ask the recruiter if he's lying.

I've posted previously before, and I've come across some new info from the recruiter. My Army MOS could translate in the Navy as either IC or I believe IS. So basically I just want opinions on these ratings, the reserves, the navy in general, extra schooling, basically anything and everything anyone may want to comment. I appreciate all comments and opinions. The decision to join the Naval reserves to some may not seem big, but I know better, and I want to think things thoroughly before deciding and wasting too much of the recruiters' time. Although lmao I'm 90% sure I want to join.

Hey! I graduated Navy boot camp on July 22nd-- I'm still in Great Lakes, across the street from RTC at NSTC, waiting for my orders to my A-school at Virginia Beach. Uhmm it is taking forever! But that's okay, I can't even stop smiling, 'cause I'm so happy I made it!
And everyone who said Navy boot camp was fun or easy or whatever.. OMG! I guess I'm a p***y, 'cause I thought it was crazy!! But I guess I did enjoy it sometimes, and now that it's over, it's cool you can just joke about it with your shipmates.

So if anyone has any questions about boot camp or whatever, you can ask me, and I'll give you the most recent info! :-D

Okay guys. I found out last monday i ship out on august 16th!!! YAY FOR ME!!! I'm also gonna tell the truth about my surgeries. if anything, it'll just delay my process. i doubt they'll get pissed at me for lying about that.

but my question is, when you get to boot camp

A) are they really anal about the 8 oz shampoo bottle? can it be a 9 oz and no one will care?
B) can i buy razors there????? because i know you can't bring them on the plane (isn't that true???), and my recruiter said i could buy them at boot, but you know recruiters....

also, i'm going into the airman apprenticeship program. what do you knonw about it??? i'm very excited and all, but i dont know what to expect. will i be on carriers? will it be fun? please, let me know what you know!

I've been considering to join the Naval Reserves and can't quite get all my questions answered by the recruiters partly to them being new. So I thought I would ask about experiences and what not here to hopefully people who are the Navy and the Naval Reserves. Luckily for though if I join I won't have to do boot camp since I'm prior service Army. I guess the best thing to do now is to ask a few questions and answer any that y'all might have. :) How are the education benefits in the Naval Reserves, anyone know about IC and what it entails, the schooling, where it's at, etc. Also once in how good are the opportunities to go to other schools as well. I want to thank all who respond your info and opinions are greatly appreciated.
