Sign languages make use of space, movements, handshapes, location and facial expressions, and ori... more Sign languages make use of space, movements, handshapes, location and facial expressions, and orientation. A combination of these features will give a single sign the meaning equivalent to a word in spoken languages. These features are commonly known as the phonological framework or the structures that are involved in articulating a Sign. Hence, each structural feature will require coding for necessary translation. In this proto-type, basic structural features i.e. Handshape, Location, Movement and Non-manual activity or facial expressions will be taken which are presented in the following section below with appropriate notation such as the HamNOsys (Hanke, 2004).
This video depicts the training process in translating fingerspellings into Indian Sign Language and this is a work in progress.
