2:20 am - FREE DIGITAL EP FROM I WAS TOTALLY DESTROYING IT |
engardemusic Durham/Chapel Hill, NC indie powerpop band I WAS TOTALLY DESTROYING IT release a FREE 7-TRACK DIGITAL EP "Done Waiting" exclusively through Reverbnation.com today, October 28th, 2008.go to http://www.reverbnation.com/iwastotallydestroyingit and click the download icon next to each track and you're on your way! It's totally FREE FREE FREE, enjoy! Here's what Brian Tucker from Bootleg Magazine in Wilmington, NC has to say about the EP: Growing tends to be a painful experience but not so with Chapel Hill’s I Was Totally Destroying It on their follow up album. IWTDI continue playing high energy power pop on Done Waiting, a seven song EP that seems less like leftover tracks from their self-titled debut but like a mad scientist’s take on familiar ideas. Done Waiting is wild-eyed, beginning with a blast of energy on the title track whose guitar breaks dropping in and out give extra thump to James Hepler’s drumming. ‘Teeth’ is just as explosive but more immediate and troubled. John Booker and Rachel Hirsh continue to be outstanding vocalists, whether on a song together or separate. Done Waiting is like a growth spurt – similar to their debut but different, taking on new shapes, architecture and flavors. Half way in the band begins to experiment and infuse the material with familiar styles, be it late sixties melodies or electronic beats on ‘I’m Broke and so is Everything I Own’ – a bouncing and murky song that’s theatrical, spooky and, briefly at times, a party. ‘The Masquerade’ opens with a The Who-like acoustic melody recalling ‘Behind Blue Eyes’ but switches to a folky feel, like The Byrds. It’s an ethereal track, brief at two minutes, but gutsy for its spare qualities and restraint. ‘Get in Line’, appropriately is a song about growing up and moving on. But perhaps it’s ‘Radar Song’ that weights the album, perhaps not. It sounds indifferent to the whole, like another band entirely. But as the longest track, it’s the most at risk and has a lot to offer. Blending acoustic guitar with echoing drum beats and eerie keyboard notes it makes for a complicated and beautiful blend. The ambiance static at the end recalls PC Kahuna and is a wonderful touch. It’s tender, flickering like memory slipping away. IWTDI is a righteous combination, blending rock, harmony, pop sounds and a bounty of ideas. The band scorches down the middle of the American highway, bringing attention from opposite lanes of culture and negating pop clichés. IWTDI has a lot of territory in which to cover, hopefully they’ll keep exploring. (comment on this) |

|
Saturday, September 1st, 2007 |
6:24 pm - March 30th at Greene Street!! |
humbleorphanss here is a letter/explanation from the guy who is putting on the show! Hope Can Save was started while my younger sister, Alyssa was in rehabilitation for anorexia. This was originally started as just a way to show love and support for my sister by those in the music scene, but while visiting my sister in treatment I discovered that there is a big problem. Nearly all of those that were in treatment were dropped within a small period of time, due to their insurance. Those that are fortunate enough to have insurance, probably don't have this sort of treatment coverage. Insurance companies tend to stay away from this disorder. My sister was dropped out of treatment early but was blessed with much more time than most have. What Hope Can Save is trying to do is provide financial aid to those without the means necessary to finish out rehab. Your contributions will give those without hope and hope can save...Love, Jordan Baker (Hope Can Save) (comment on this) |
