Due to its proximity to China, it was initially feared that Taiwan would become the country worst affected by the pandemic. However, COVID-19 has been widely controlled in the region; a few local outbreaks occurred with limited cases since the pandemic began. Taiwan leveraged its experience in containing the SARS outbreak in 2003 to respond to the COVID-19 crisis with proactive measures, early deployment, prudent actions, and transparency. Most political debate in Taiwan has centered around vaccines. However, from challenges like vaccine availability to increasing the willingness to take vaccines by the population, the Taiwan government has succeeded well. Taiwan's National Health Insurance system is a vital component of its strategy to improve the efficiency of healthcare delivery throughout the country. And the database integrated with the Centers of Disease Control provides real-time alerts to healthcare providers about patients whenever they are identified. In response to delta variant spread after a community outbreak, health monitoring measures were tightened, leading the country to successfully control the spread of the infection. Other countries can learn lessons from Taiwan's response to COVID-19.

Methods: The cross-sectional study enrolled hypertensive patients from a cardiac outpatient department in Indonesia using convenience sampling. Eligible patients received a demographic questionnaire and DSRQ-I during a one-month period of data collection. Content and construct analysis examined the validity, whereas internal consistency assessment checked reliability. Participation required 10e 15 minutes on average. Results: One hundred thirty-five patients participated: mostly females (54.1%) and married (82.9%) with mean age of 58.18 ± 10.44 years. The item of content validity index was .97, and subscale content validity index was .81 for DSRQ-I. The KaisereMeyereOlkin test gave a value of .83, indicating adequate sampling, and the Bartlett's test of sphericity reached significant result (p < .001). The principal component analysis indicated three components, with 64.2% explaining variance, including perceived behavioral control (35.5%), attitude (19.3%), and subjective norm (9.4%). Confirmatory factor analysis produced a parsimonious model on the three-factor outcome by removing a single item. The indices of good fit model was achieved at x 2 /df ¼ 2.17, goodness fit index ¼ .85, root mean square error of approximation ¼ .09, standardized root mean square means ¼ .07, and Bentler comparative fit index ¼ .90 (p < .001). Cronbach's alpha coefficients for attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control were .85, .87, and .85, respectively. All interitem and item-total correlations indicated adequate outcome and acceptable result. Consequently, 15 items were determined reliable measurement and included in the final version of DSRQ-I. Conclusion: The DSRQ-I is a valid and reliable instrument to measure facilitators and barrier of sodium restriction among hypertensive patients in Indonesia.

People living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLHIV) have higher risk of suicidal behavior than the general population. The aim of this review is to summarize suicidal behavior, associated risk factors, and risk populations among PLHIV. Research studies in six databases from January 1, 1988, to July 8, 2021, were searched using keywords that included “HIV,” “suicide,” and “risk factors.” The study design, suicide measurement techniques, risk factors, and study findings were extracted. A total of 193 studies were included. We found that the Americas, Europe, and Asia have the highest rates of suicidal behavior. Suicide risk factors include demographic factors, mental illness, and physiological, psychological, and social support. Depression is the most common risk factor for PLHIV, with suicidal ideation and attempt risk. Drug overdosage is the main cause of suicide death. In conclusion, the current study found that PLHIV had exper...

Research paper thumbnail of Effects of Distraction on Reducing Pain During Invasive Procedures in Children with Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

However, there is a shortage of reviews reporting the efficacy of distraction for procedural pain reduction in pediatric oncology settings. To determine the current evidence on the effects of distraction on procedural pain in children with cancer. This systematic review and meta-analysis was undertaken according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines SETTINGS: Six different databases from 1990 to June 2019. A literature search was conducted to identify the effects of distraction on procedural pain reduction in children with cancer. A meta-analysis was undertaken along with applying a mixed effect model to quantify the standardized mean difference in the 95% confidence interval (CI) as the overall effects. Ten randomized controlled trials were included. Distraction during an invasive procedure had a large effect on pain intensity (-0.92, 95% CI -1.48 to -0.36, p = .001) and on needle insertion as well (-1.12, 95% CI -1.52 to -0.72, p = .000), but only a moderate effect on lumbar puncture procedures (-0.57, 95% CI -1.02 to -0.12, p = .012). Uncertain effects on pain relief showed up in a virtual reality (VR) distraction (-0.93, 95% CI -2.63 to 0.76, p = .28) and during active distraction (-0.72, 95% CI -1.48 to 0.03, p = .06). Distraction is an efficacious intervention to reduce procedural pain during needle insertion or lumbar puncture procedures in children with cancer. However, the efficacy of active distraction and VR remain uncertain. Future research should focus on specific comparisons of different forms of distractions with larger sample sizes.
