Aesthetics is an exercise in continuous tension with the public arena and its political discourse... more Aesthetics is an exercise in continuous tension with the public arena and its political discourses. In fact, there has been an extensive discussion about the political dimension of aesthetics and its possible uses as a political instrument, from Aristotle to the Frankfurt School. Following Adorno, I understand that aesthetics and art have a social role even in their apparent functionless. In fact, art is always political because it interacts in the public sphere or the polis, understanding that concept as the public interaction in a nation-state and the imaginary communities evoked under our modern political organization.
