But what happens when those dreams are dashed because grandparents are unexpectedly put into a parenting role again? To me, it does not mean every single word I speak in the therapy room is from the specific model upon which I base my theoretical epistemology. Rather, my philosophy of treatment is the standard by which I measure other theoretical concepts as I continue to move toward becoming a more informed and ethical professional. Throughout my career as a therapist, I have been exposed to many theories and ideas. I align with systemic thinking, rather than non-systemic models of therapy. I also find myself in agreement with post-modern approaches, instead of modern approaches. Within post-modern systemic theories, I connect with the epistemology of narrative therapy the most. Throughout this paper, I will describe how my philosophy of treatment was developed and demonstrate how my philosophy of treatment informs my clinical work through a case study example.

Each strategic therapist has his or her own way of executing the ideas and techniques of this model of therapy, whether it be the different types of paradox they use, the various metaphors implemented with their diverse clients, or the way in which they communicate. By investigating strategic therapy, I have experienced change in the way I view the model, the conceptualization of problems, and my own personal theory of therapy.
