9:10PM - Question: Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina

My copy of this book is currently on the other side of the continent, and I need to check a fact. In one of the stories (I believe it's the spacer's tale?) the main character was trying to escape something or other and ducked into a building or ship with a bunch of balconies or windows that a group of monks used to preach at people on the street walking by. What's the name of the place? Is it a building or a ship? I'm writing a piece of fanfic where it would be handy to be able to reference that. Any help would be appreciated.

3:50PM - Star Wars Fic Fest

Hello all! I'm beatrice_otter, and I'm here to announce the starwarsficfest. It's not just for fanfic--fanart and fanvids are welcome as well. The object is to create as many new Star Wars fanworks as possible during the month of July. We're currently taking prompts for fanworks of all Star Wars eras and genres; on May 27 we'll open up the prompts for claiming, and posting begins July 1. Here's our FAQ.

You don't have to create a fanwork to submit a prompt, and you don't have to submit a prompt in order to claim one and create a fanwork for it. It's all for fun, and there's no pressure.

We don't have many EU prompts yet, and we'd like to have more--Hope to see you there!

7:44PM - A New MUSH

telnet://starwars.isunlimited.net:2001

'STAR WARS: Dark Horizons' is a new MUSH set in the period preceding the original series and the Clone Wars.

It has our heroes Yoda and Obi-Wan as well as the villains Palpatine and Tarkin. Familiar settings such as Coruscant and Mustafar are fully realized worlds on the IC grid that allow RP in a variety of settings.

Q: You're thinking to yourself, "So what makes this place different?"

A: The code is truly superb. It has a complete code system for an IC economy where one earns money through investing or through IC transactions. With those funs, one may purchase a ship or personal armor or a blaster. One may hire armies or buy ground vehicles such as tanks or walkers or swoops. One may even buy citizenship and vie for control of Republic and non-Republic worlds. And of course, everything is tied together with a robust combat system that includes player-to-player, player-to-vehicle, player-to-army, ship -to-ship and ship-to-ground combat. In this version of a galaxy far, far away, there are many ways to prosper and just as many ways to die.

Q: "Right, sounds pretty cool. But what's the theme? It's pre-Clone Wars?"

A: Unlike a lot of games around, 'SW:DH' takes as its only canon the original trilogy as they were first released. The prequels I, II and III are not recognized as canon, though certain parts of them are used as inspiration.

Q: "So George's vision is just cut off, just like that?"

A: That's right. Remember back before 'The Phantom Menace' came out when we all thought about and discussed what it must have been like in the then unknown early episodes. The talk about what Ben meant by a certain point of view, the conjecture about Leia's mom and how the Emperor seduced Vader? Wanting to build off twenty-odd years of personal thought on the subject, the designers and builders of 'SW:DH' have brought out their vision of the galaxy as it existed in the early eighties after 'Return of the Jedi' came out, a galaxy that represented a 'used future' without talk about vergences in the Force or those wacky Midi-chlorians. It's a galaxy that lived in our imaginations and continues to live on at 'STAR WARS: Dark Horizons'.

So come find a galaxy far, far away and rediscover it again like you did the first time a long time ago!

3:21AM - "Casting" characters in the SW EU, take two!

Hi, everybody! Sorry, but this isn't a posting with fanfic in it, though it's a posting that pertains to fanfic (including one rather massive WiP and a finished, novella-sized companion piece). Basically, this is another invitation for Star Wars fans to share their opinions about some of the SW Expanded Universe characters. The first crossposted round of "Who would you cast?" has gone so well, as of right now, that I'm launching a second round. *Grins* Would any of you fine folks care to rise the challenge of another round of "Who would you cast?" and while away some time in a pursuit that will hopefully lead yours truly to a better grasp of certain EU characters (yours truly being in the process of rewriting much of the overall SW saga, from the prequels up through . . . well, as far as I manage to get, doubtlessly at least up to the twins bonding with their respective other halves)?

The rules of the game are very simple. Essentially, all you have to do is pretend that you are a casting director unconstrained by such things as the limits of time and space (i.e., if you can imagine an actor or model or other such famous individual who would have perfect in a role many, many moons ago, that's no reason not to offer that person up as a choice) who has been given free reign to choose who to cast as certain SW EU characters, and respond to this challenge. If possible, please include a picture or a link to an appropriate picture of the person or persons being nominated for the role in question in your response, on the off chance that the person you're putting forth for consideration might be someone that others (including me) aren't as familiar with.

( Read more...Collapse )

Have fun! And please do comment! Seriously. I won't bite. Promise! Seriously. I won't bite. So have fun!!!

Current mood: hopeful people will respond!!!

9:48PM - "Casting" for certain EU characters

Hi, everybody! 7:26PM - Question about posting

Would it be acceptable to post here regarding which actors (or models or other people in general) fans would like to see cast in roles of specific EU characters?

12:50AM - Asking for book and fanfiction recomendations...

Hellooooo???? Has everyone deserted?

I've recently read The Crystal Star and wondered which couple of books I should read next. I would like to read the books in some kind of order...don't know if it should be by publication or by in what order events happened.

Also, does anyone have any recomendations of fanfiction for Jacen, Anakin, Jaina, Kyp, Zekk, etc.?

Current mood: calm

Is celibacy mandatory when you become a Jedi? I know they're all about not having attachments but I read a lot of Jedi stories that talk of people being in families of Jedi, or that their mother was a Jedi and that these people didn't experience anything bad.

8:33PM

When I look up Star Wars stuff on Wikipedia they tell all this stuff that happens between Episodes III and IV. There's a clone rebellion, Boba Fett kills Lama Su, and things like Captain Panaka becomes a Moff and much post about RotS closure. Are there books that have been written that tell this stuff? Or is this non-canonical fiction?

3:48PM - Young Jedi Knights

alright. i've been rreading (and coloecting) Star Wars books for some time now, and have amassed what is probably the majority of the non-prequel books (NJO, Black Fleet Crisis, the Zahn books, ect)

as i'm nearing the end of the Jedi Academy Trilogy, i find myself also very near the end of my reading list. (i have maybe 10 books to go) now, i've heard good things about the Young Jedi Knights series from adults, even though they are intended for younger readers.

my question is simple: would anyone here recomend the Young Jedi Knights series? if so, just HOW good is it? is it worth, say, buying a complete set in good condition off Ebay, or more of a "buy one used, buy others if you see them" kind of thing? any help would be much loved, thank you.

11:24AM - newbie here

I'm velvetnc and I just recently started getting into the Star Wars expanded universe, not a big fan of the prequel novels (I prefer my Vader evil) but I've become seriously addicted to the New Jedi Order series and I'd like to read to Thrawn novels but my local bookstore seems to be perpetually out of Book 1 and I hate starting a series in the middle.

P.S. recently got married, walked down the aisle to the SW main theme, too excessive?? lol

11:18PM - Episode what?

Why did the original star wars start with episode IV. It makes sense now with the prequels, but did they have that in mind?

12:22AM - Jedi Names!

While I was roaming around Star Wars dot com, I came across how to get your Jedi Name.
First, take the first three letters of your first name and the first two letters of your last name and combine them to get your first name.
Then take the first two letters of your mother's maiden name and combine them with the first three letters with your hometown to get your last name.
Mine is Jusgr Joden.
