Much of the interpretation is heavily influenced by the scholarly work on the topic done in previous decades. In my freshman year of high school, as a member of the San Francisco School of the Arts Wind Symphony, we performed the fourth movement of the piece and, from then on, it has retained its aesthetic grandeur through years of personal exposure to a variety of different styles and philosophies of music. Thus, I humbly submit this aesthetic interpretation of the piece as one of a community of lovers of Shostakovich's 5th symphony
