COTABATO CITY — Four alleged gunrunners were arrested during a buy-bust operation conducted by police in Barangay Villarica, Midsayap, Cotabato province, on May 30, an official said Sunday.

Lt. Col. Niño Lope Briones, acting regional chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group–Regional Field Unit–Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (CIDG-RFUBAR), said the buy-bust operation under “Oplan Paglalansag Omega” was carried out in coordination with other police units after a suspect known as “Basti” agreed to sell long firearms to an undercover police agent.

“They were immediately arrested after they handed over the rifles,” Briones said.

Seized from the suspects were one M14 rifle and two M16 rifles, the marked money, a Toyota Vios, and two mobile phones allegedly used in the illegal firearms transaction.

The suspects are being detained at the CIDG-RFUBAR detention facility in Cotabato City and face charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. /mcm
