Dissection of the IMA and controlling its flow during cardioplegic delivery has thus been considered essential steps. This maneuver however, is associated with the risk of damaging the IMA. Herein, we report a technique, which involves no attempts to dissect, or clamp the IMA in 44 consecutive redo cardiac surgery procedures. The results demonstrate that this technique is simple, safe, and reduces the chance of IMA injury.

In this study, erythrocyte suspension of normal and diseased (Thrombosis) blood is subjected to non-uniform electric field (NUEF) produced by pin-pin electrode configuration. The parameter DCR and measured at constant cell concentration, Frequency and applied voltage. The study reveals significant difference in DCR of erythrocytes of thrombosis patients, when compared with that of healthy persons.

The study sample consisted of 80 prospective teachers (23 male and 57 females) of three Regional Institutes of Teachers Haripur, Abbottabad and Manshera. Descriptive research was considered most suitable for this research study and survey method was applied. Data of the study was collected through questionnaire based on five points rating scale. Before administration of questionnaire it reliability and content validity was checked by the experts of PEACE Abbottabad. After amendment questionnaire was sent to three RITEs for data collection. Collected data were analyzed by applying SPSS. The data was analyzed by using mean scores and t-test on (0.05 level of significance). The study concluded that overall female prospective teachers have positive attitudes towards the use of portfolio as compare to male prospective teachers with regard to gender. There was no significant difference in attitudes across residence and qualification of prospective teachers.

It mediates changes in HR, BP and peripheral vascular tone in responses to daily changes, including change of posture and physical exercise. Aims: To evaluate the ability of HRV by using short term physical exercise of endurance in nature and study the transient changes in HRV in response to a bout of endurance exercise. Method and Material: 50 male healthy, non-athletic, young individuals from various socioeconomic groups. In the supine position systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and pulse rate were recorded and continuous standard lead II ECG was recorded for five minutes in eyes closed relaxed state. Results: The mean age of male is 19.12±1.33. Heart rate response to graded exercise on bicycle ergometer showed a significant decrease at 3rd , 4th , 5th&6th minute after physical training[p<0.05]. There was no significant change in post training values of time and frequency domain measures of HRV the trend. Conclusions: Endurance exercise training sessions performed over 4 weeks significantly alters cardiac autonomic modulation.

In this article, we propose a novel background modeling method based on frequency for spatially varying and time repetitive textured background. The local Fourier transform is applied to construct a pixel-wise representation of local frequency components. We apply our method for object detection in moving background conditions. Experimental results of our frequency-based background model are evaluated both qualitatively and quantitatively.

Video surveillance systems are installed on strategically important places on the rivers. To protect these places from destructions due to accumulation of wood, such systems must be able to automatically detect wood. Image segmentation is performed to separate wood and other moving elements from the rest of the water. Moving objects are detected with respect to brightness and temporal variation features. The floating wood is then tracked in the sequence of frames by temporal linking of the segments generated in the detection step. Our algorithm is tested on multiple videos of floods and the results are evaluated both qualitatively and quantitatively.

Research paper thumbnail of Customer Churn Prediction in Telecommunication Industry: With and without Counter-Example

Due to the high cost of acquiring a new customer, customer churn prediction is one of the greatest importance for project managers. It is important to forecast customer churn behavior in order to retain those customers that will churn or possibly may churn. This study is another attempt which makes use of rough set theory as one-class classifier and multi-class classifier to reveal the trade-off in the selection of an effective classification model for customer churn prediction. Experiments were performed to explore the performance of four different rule generation algorithms (i.e. Exhaustive, genetic, covering and LEM2). It is observed that rough set as one-class classifier and multi-class classifier based on genetic algorithm yields more suitable performance out of four rule generation algorithms. Furthermore, by applying the proposed techniques (i.e. Rough sets as one-class and multi-class classifiers) on publicly available dataset, the results show that rough set as a multi-class classifier provides more accurate results for binary/multi-class classification problems.

Research paper thumbnail of In Vitro Biodegradability of Poly(lactic Acid)/Hydroxyapatite Biocomposites Prepared by Solvent-Blending Technique

In-vitro biodegradability of biocomposites was performed in phosphate buffer solution (PBS) at 37°C. The presence of hydroxyapatite tended to increase biodegradability of poly (lactic acid) in its biocomposites. Thermal stability of biocomposites was always higher than that neat poly (lactic acid) either before and after hydrolytic degradation tests. After biodegradation tests, some micro-holes and cracks were appeared in the surface morphology of biocomposites as well as the increasing crystallinity occurred.

Methods Between July 2002 and May 2007, a total of 1212 patients with an ejection fraction of 35% or less and coronary artery disease amenable to CABG were randomly assigned to medical therapy alone (602 patients) or medical therapy plus CABG (610 patients). The primary outcome was the rate of death from any cause. Major secondary outcomes included the rates of death from cardiovascular causes and of death from any cause or hospitalization for cardiovascular causes. Results The primary outcome occurred in 244 patients (41%) in the medical-therapy group and 218 (36%) in the CABG group (hazard ratio with CABG, 0.86; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.72 to 1.04; P = 0.12). A total of 201 patients (33%) in the medicaltherapy group and 168 (28%) in the CABG group died from an adjudicated cardiovascular cause (hazard ratio with CABG, 0.81; 95% CI, 0.66 to 1.00; P = 0.05). Death from any cause or hospitalization for cardiovascular causes occurred in 411 patients (68%) in the medical-therapy group and 351 (58%) in the CABG group (hazard ratio with CABG, 0.74; 95% CI, 0.64 to 0.85; P<0.001). By the end of the followup period (median, 56 months), 100 patients in the medical-therapy group (17%) underwent CABG, and 555 patients in the CABG group (91%) underwent CABG. Conclusions In this randomized trial, there was no significant difference between medical therapy alone and medical therapy plus CABG with respect to the primary end point of death from any cause. Patients assigned to CABG, as compared with those assigned to medical therapy alone, had lower rates of death from cardiovascular causes and of death from any cause or hospitalization for cardiovascular causes.
