Bryce Young Benching "Not Permanent" (original) (raw)

On Monday, it was announced that Panthers quarterback Bryce Young, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, would be benched for veteran backup quarterback Andy Dalton.

On Friday, it was revealed that Young would be open to anything, including being traded away from Carolina.

It sounds like Young is still a part of the future plans in Carolina, despite the benching in week three. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported early on Sunday that the Panthers expect to start Young again at some point this season.

The plan is to use Young's benching as more of a "timeout" or a "reset" according to Rapoport.

Rapoport reports, "The belief is Young will be back, sources say, and when he is, this time off the field will benefit him."

Young started 18 games through his first two seasons in the NFL, completing 59.3% of his passes for 3,122 yards and 11 touchdowns to 13 picks.

Rapoport also reported, "While Canales did not detail when Young might play again or how long Dalton will start, sources say this is viewed as a timeout for Young, not a season-long benching. A time to take a deep breath, let it all slow down, de-stress, and learn by watching."

A brief break to recollect oneself can be good, and for Young, it could mean the difference between success or failure in the NFL.
