Meet the Hollisters (original) (raw)

24 January 2009 @ 01:28 am

The moderator over at Fichtner Firsthand has said that an acquaintance of hers who works at FOX told her that the network will be considering "Night and Day".
I consider this to be great news, as William Fichtner found a very receptive audience on "Prison Break" on FOX (within the show's audience, I mean -- I'm well aware that Prison Break's ratings aren't great), and they have already benefitted quite a bit from a certain other Joel Surnow project. My only concern would be that if "Night and Day" is too similar to "24", the network wouldn't see... a use for it? If that makes any sense. Networks probably don't actually think like that.
It's a pleasant surprise to hear from this so early; I wasn't expecting to hear any more news before the upfronts in May -- if then at all, of course.

It feels a little strange, not knowing when or if we will be updated on whether the pilot will be sold to another network. Something tells me that if they can't make the sell, we won't be informed, left to wonder forever whatever happened to that promising pilot.
Or maybe that's just me.
Anyway, I found an interesting little blurb on the pilot from someone who was presumably part of the crew, on Riley Smith's IMDb message board.

First there will be a lot of action scenes, showing the tough job and than the family life will be shown. There was not much Riley yet, but a few scenes where he holds a gun, coming around a corner. He is one of the rookies. It's like 1 hour daily with the same sequence all over again (it feels like thousands of takes) But I am pretty sure from what I've seen so far that the pilot should be a good one.

In other news, I've finally learned how to do a block quote.

Betty Palik, Director of Communications at Muse Entertainment (the company that produced the "Night and Day" pilot in association with Tandem Communications) has informed me that the pilot is being submitted to another network.
I don't want to get anyone's hopes up -- especially my own -- but I would be even more excited for "Night and Day" if it was shown on another network. Hopefully one that can be viewed in Canada.

"Night and Day" won't be picked up.

According to this article, sources close to the decision of choosing a pilot are saying that the network is currently leaning towards "Men of a Certain Age". Bleargh.
Keep in mind, however, that even if "Night and Day" isn't immediately ordered to series, doesn't mean it never will be. TNT might wait until later in the year to greenlight it. Or they can wake up and realize that shows by "Everybody Loves Raymond" alumni don't tend to do well. *coughTilDeathcough*

TNT has to make the final decisions on series orders within the next week -- that is, by the end of the year. According to this article, TNT will choose one or two pilots from the four or five scripted hourlongs they ordered to turn into fully-fledged series. Once a pilot is given an order to series, they are guaranteed a 13-episode season, and cannot be canceled mid-season. There's at least one thing to be thankful for.
I summed up the competition over at my personal journal, if you're curious.

Marta from Fichtner Firsthand pointed out to me that Kaili Thorne, who will play Alison Hollister, had a tiny picture of the actors playing the Hollister family on her MySpace fansite profile. Long story short, I contacted Kaili, who generously agreed to send along the two pictures I'm now posting.
I'm trying to act more subdued than I'm feeling. I've never e-mailed an actor/actress before. It feels so official-like.

Thanks again to Kaili, who is a very sweet and friendly person, and I look forward to seeing her appearance in the pilot. (If only so I can point frantically at the screen and say "I e-mailed her! I'm special!". Heh. You know I will.)
And of course thanks to the ever eagle-eyed Marta.
I'd like to add that nightandday_tv has a new affiliate, and_learn_2_fly.

News is still very slow at this point, and I wasn't going to post this one picture, but I don't want to be biased against any news items. It's possible that some people are excited to see Holt McCallany and/or Frank Powers in "Night and Day". I don't know any of them personally, but I'm sure they exist. So here you go, a picture from the set:

Yeah, I don't know who "NY Joe" is either.
Found here, referred to by Marta over at Fichtner Firsthand (Again! She's very on top of the N&D news, that girl.)

And so it begins!

Tandem Communications has also put out a fact sheet on the series -- not much we didn't know already (that is, if you've been following the production as closely as I have), but still exciting:

All at this link: http://www.tandemcom.de/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=308&Itemid=512

I'm particularly glad to hear that it will follow a 13-episode season instead of a 22-episode season. I find pacing works better on a 13-episode arc.

Thanks to Marta over at Fichtner Firsthand for the link!

These have been around for a while, but now that this community's up I have the opportunity to post them -- the first two pictures from the set of the shooting of the N&D pilot.

Thanks to Martina over at Fichtner Firsthand for the heads up.

Like it says, bbs, welcome.
So I've set up this little comm a little bit earlier than it warrants, since not only has the show not started yet, the promotion of the show hasn't started yet, and I'm jumping the gun just by assuming the series is going to progress beyond the pilot. But here's hoping, anyways.
I expect news will be slow to non-existent for a while, but a little bird told me that promotion for the show is set to start in mid-December. I am honestly more excited for that than Christmas.
The moderated post feature is (hopefully) temporary, just while I'm getting things set up. I hope like hell that this show gathers a fan-base pronto, because the creativity precipitated by a show can be one of the best things about the viewing experience. So I'd love to see fanart, icons, graphics, fic, whatever. I'm going to try to stay on top of news, but any help in that department would be grand.
I'm looking for a co-maintainer who has reliable access to TNT, the television network that is going to be airing "Night and Day". 'Cause I, well, don't. The signal doesn't cover Canada. Woe is me.
I'm more excited about "Night and Day" than I could possibly express. *dances around like a maniac*
P.S. The layout on this comm looks so much better if you have the "Always show on any journal or community I view" navigational strip option turned off.
