Northern Indiana Social Scene

Granger, Indiana, United States

Anyone who lives in Northern Indiana, or Chicago, or visits often, or has friends here, is welcome to join NISocial. Basically, it's for cool and interesting people who want to meet other cool and interesting people. The other Northern Indiana-related communities just weren't cutting the mustard for me, and the moderation on some of them is questionable. I will try my best to facilitate and moderate discussion, but be forwarned, I do have higher priorities. Here are the rules and such:

- Posts are intended to be at least *loosely* related to the social scene of the area. Some examples are: you may post about shows, what bars/coffee houses/clubs are cool, stuff going on in the area or at your school, church...um, stuff, or the ever-popular "What I did this weekend." Just use your best judgement, and I'll tell you if you're OT. I'm not gonna be a Nazi about it; I don't have that kind of time.
- You may have one photo in front of the cut, but let's not be annoying about it. Let's try and keep it no bigger thaaan...let's say, 500x500. That's more than enough. Anything bigger, along with additional images, must go behind a cut. If you don't know how to do a cut, IM me or email me and I'll help you out. It's very useful.
- Everyone is to treat each other with dignity and respect.
- I (Bridget, the Moderator, nice to meet you) reserve the right to delete/edit posts and ban people as I see fit, without warning or explanation -- although I'm sure in most cases I will give you one of each (at least in the case of banning). Don't worry, like I said -- I'm not gonna be a Nazi about it. But I also don't have the time/energy to screw around.
- I'd kind of like to ask that everyone be at least 13 years old, and everyone should watch their language/content in accordance with that. I am going to assume that, by joining this community, you are saying that you are indeed 13. I will look on the birthdate on your info page if there is ever any question.
- No spam. Or anything that is overtly (i.e. annoyingly) advertising.
- Oh and please don't post excessively about ND games; there is another community for that.

My vision for this community: Look, I know Indiana sucks balls, and saying that it has a "social scene" is prolly a stretch. I've been around a bit, and believe me this is the most boring, dull, understimulating place that I have ever been...except maybe like, Omaha. It is one of the least-pedestrian-friendly places, and gets very little sunshine and the weather can be rather depressing, so it's perfectly understandable that everyone likes to stay holed up in their houses, drinking cheap American beer and surfing the internet, getting fatter and stupider...God knows, I am guilty of this. (Except for the cheap American beer part.) And yes, I know we don't *actually* have a social scene. The ND students are all worcoholics on the weekdays and on the weekends their idea of fun is house parties, which we all grow out of within a year. And I know our clubs aren't REAL clubs, and our bars have the same people in them all the time. (Last time I went, I counted like 23 people from my high school class.) Well, this here ElJay community is for people who are sick of sitting and complaining about how there's no one interesting to hang out with around here. It is for people who want to ask MORE of this godforsaken corner of the Earth. There is more to do in Northern Indiania than get drunk in some cornfield behind your house, go to football games and cross-burnings. I ask you, fellow NorthernIndianians, to riiise up, I say, RIIISE UP!! against the mediocrity! Set yourself apart from the perfunctory, uneventful routines of Indiana life. Step outside into the cold, crisp air and take in the

vast wasteland cornfield

panorama of spacious flatlands and

dense wastelands

enchanting woodlands that would make a Tokyo native jealous! Run out and meet people! Talk to them! Stimulate those brain cells! Engage in some *GASP* intellectual discourse! Let us ban together and collectively wallow in our stuck-in-Indiana-ness.

Sincerely,
The Management (a.k.a. Bridget, a.k.a. starlightm42)

P.S. For my loquacious and colorful use of the English language herein, I blame two things: my Irish genes and this lovely glass of Louis Jadot.
