It can be sent to hostile and hazardous places where it is unsafe for humans, like mines, radioactive prone areas, etc. thereby reducing human risk. The rover is provided with various sensors that monitors parameter like temperature and smoke. The sensors continuously monitors the environment and update the value to the cloud server, enabling the user to view the values in a website, in real time. The rover could be controlled from smartphone with the help of a Bluetooth app. In addition to this, the webpage has buttons to control the rover. Also, a camera mounted on the rover live streams the video to the webpage, assisting in controlling the movement. The rover can also be used for surveillance, with the help of camera and motion detection algorithms. There is also an automatic mode in which the rover moves on its own in a predefined path.

This paper reports the implementation of a multi-transmitter visible light communication based indoor localization system that offers a moderate data rate and indoor positioning with sub-meter accuracy. The work includes a prototype of the proposed system with four transmitters and a receiver module mounted on a stationary base. The transmitted data was Manchester encoded, and Binary Amplitude Shift Keying modulated. Multiple access of channel was achieved using Time Division Multiple Access technique. The receiver module used a PIN photodiode to detect the light signal and indoor positioning or localization was implemented using received signal strength technique.

This uses an array of sensors distributed in the path. When the object with identification tag passes through the path, the sensors calculate the approximate distance from each of them with the help of a series of Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) values. The data is collected and is displayed on a user interface provided. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) protocol is used in the wireless sensor network. The RSSI values are mapped to corresponding distances by an initial training and this data is used for estimation of the distance. Path loss exponent and curve fitting methods are proposed for estimation of distance from the initial training data. Further, an error reduction method is also proposed for improving the accuracy of the estimation.

A numerous experiments and studies were carried out on it in a proper and systematic manner to analyze its characteristics. As the consequence of availability of high-speed electronics and efficient algorithms various high efficient BCI devices were developed. The dry electrode based BCI device implemented here falls to the non-invasive BCI category and shall assist a speech impediment person by restoring the ability to call a person on demand situations artificially. Currently, the brain electrophysiological signals BCI used can be divided into three categories: specific frequency components of EEG produced spontaneously during the process of brain thinking, such as alpha waves, beta waves and so on; next is the brain evoked event-related potentials (ERP), i.e. neural electrical activity of cerebral cortex induced by specific sensory stimulus or event operation; and the third category is the electrical activity signals of neurons in group directly acquired from the detection electrode implanted into the specific region of the brain cortex. Here the advantages of ERP signal are exploited to implement a Brain Computer Interface device for speech impediments using the Neurosky's Mindwave Headset, Intel Galileo Board & ISD series chip.

Unfortunately, it requires a long time to generate and run test sequences. Under the time to market pressure, it is very time consuming to write all test programs manually. This brings about the necessity of developing a random test program generator. The proposed method is for verifying the pre silicon model of the multithreaded multi cored processor (SPARC T1). The work takes the input from the user and generates a sequence of assembly language instructions (SPARC V9) randomly, initializes all the register values with random numbers to verify the corner cases. The test cases are seed based and run through the RTL model to check the correctness of the design. The test cases generated are also run on the defective model.

On observing the path through which we travel daily we can see that a lot of electricity is wasted by glowing sodium wafer lamps and even the traditional tube lights on the electric posts at unnecessary intervals. The self regulating solar system enters into action and exits from functioning depending upon the output from the Day/Night sensing unit. Once the unit indicates arrival of night then the system turns ON, the controlling unit thereafter controls the illumination level of the lamp depending upon the outputs of interruption detector, temperature sensor & real time clock. The system also contains an embedded temperature sensing unit that senses the temperature of the lamp module, thereafter preventing the operation of the lamp at undesirable temperature condition and hence increasing the life span of the LEDs a used in the lamp.

Hence the researches in recognition and related works in Malayalam language is gaining more prominence in the current scenario. This paper proposes the use of Curvelet transform and neural network for the recognition of handwritten Malayalam character. Curvelet transform is to be used in the feature extraction stage and neural network for classification. Curvelet transform provides a compact representation for curved singularities and is well suited for malayalam language. Two different back propagation algorithms had been employed and the performance is compared on varying architecture. The promising feature of the work is successful classification of 53 characters which is an improvement over the existing works. Application of character recognition include sorting of bank cheques and postal letters, reading aid for blind, data compression etc. Besides, an automated tool with graphical user interface in MATLAB has been developed for Malayalam character recognition.

Many other Signal processing algorithms such as filter, spectrum estimation and OFDM can be transformed into DFT to implement in hardware. FFT is the collection of group of algorithms that performs the DFT at higher speed. FFT is indispensable in most signal processing applications, so the designing of an appropriate algorithm for the implementation of FFT can be most important in Most of the digital signal processing. The techniques such as pipelining and parallel calculations have potential impacts on VLSI implementation of FFT algorithm. By theoretical observations Split-radix algorithm is an appropriate algorithm for the implementation of FFT among all the effective algorithms of FFT, because it reduces number of arithmetic operations to great extent. At the requirement of high speed, an algorithm that is best for high speed implementation is to be found. This algorithm performs well in the implementation of FPGA and ASIC, satisfies the requirement of high speed.

The range of applications in which UAVs are used is very large. This paper describes the application of developing an autonomous surveillance system using an UAV to identify a given target and/or objects of interest in the terrain over which it flies. Such a system can be used in rescue operations, especially in remote areas where physical access is difficult. It can also be used for military operations, farming or any field where surveillance of a given land area is required. The UAV developed in this work is capable of object detection. A mounted camera is used to give visual feedback, and an onboard processing unit runs image recognition software to identify the target in real time. Optimal algorithms are used to search and find the target from the given search area. After recognition of the target, the UAV can either be used to hold its position so as to have a video feed of the target, or return to its base station once the coordinates have been estimated using GPS modules or relay the GPS location to the base station. This paper describes the implementation of the hardware and software components that lead to the realization of the UAV and the application of object detection. The details of a new search algorithm and an example of object detection is presented . The work presented in this paper is the first part in the attempt to develop a cluster of UAVs meant to work in collaboration to be deployed for search and rescue operations.

Sensors in Zigbee and Wi Fi networks form the back bone of this work. Low power networks like Zigbee and connectivity provided by WiFi are needed to realize the concept of Internet of Things (IoT). The main cause of environmental pollution in most cities are industries and automobiles emitting poisonous gases. This paper discusses the implementation of a unit which senses the presence of such gases and uploads the information to a website, and also sends messages to the concerned people. The second part of this work is a vehicle monitoring unit, that can be fixed in vehicles. This system tracks the location of the vehicle, detects accidents to the vehicle and monitors its engine temperature and the presence of poisonous gases from its exhaust. In the case of the vehicle is stolen, it also has the feature to locate the vehicle and prevent it from moving until a message is sent by the owner. The third part of the work, in which, vehicles which do signal jumping are detected and penalised. The density of the traffic around traffic junctions is measured and information updated in the website. An Android app is developed so that all the required information is easily available. The paper describes the hardware and software implementation of the prototype system.
