Racism and other forms of oppression that intersect with race need to be challenged in secondary ... more Racism and other forms of oppression that intersect with race need to be challenged in secondary social studies school curricula for students to be fully educated. The purpose of this research study was to examine the stories of Black and Latino secondary school teachers’ experiences incorporating multicultural education in their social studies instruction. A multicultural curriculum, one that embodies social justice and diversity, can evoke transformational dialogue on critical issues of race, class and identity. The findings of this research demonstrated the importance of multicultural education in the curriculum, the importance of the Teachers of Color who facilitate it, and their application of culturally responsive instructional practices in the classroom. Each participant shared their experiences and expressed their common desire of wanting to be a part of preparing their students to thrive in an adverse and socially unjust environment.
