Considering the uncertainty about the risk of bias in the included trials, the authors' conclusions and recommendations may be viewed as being too strong. Searching PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, PEDro, SCOPUS, BioMed, SUMSearch and The Cochrane Library were searched up to February 2011 for studies in English or French. The search strategy was reported as an appendix. Study selection Controlled studies of aerobic walking training in patients with knee osteoarthritis were eligible for inclusion. Patients had to be at least 40 years old and have a healthy body mass index (BMI) of below 25kg/m 2. Exercise interventions had to last for at least one month. A wide range of outcomes were eligible (listed in the paper). In most included studies patients performed supervised exercise. Some of the interventions also included multicomponent exercises or strength training. Most interventions were given two or three times a week for three months. Most of the control group treatments incorporated educational sessions. All studies included patients who satisfied radiographic or clinical criteria for their diagnosis. Mean ages of participants ranged from 56 to 76 years. Two reviewers selected studies, with disagreements resolved by a third reviewer. Assessment of study quality Two reviewers assessed study quality using the Jadad scale, resulting in a quality score between 0 and 5 points. Strength of evidence was graded using the Appraisal of Guidelines Research and Evaluation criteria.

The diagnosis was madeon clinicals grounds. The group's means age was 8 years. Sex rates were identical. In 60%of the patients the onset ofthe syndrome occurred at spring and fall months and also in 60% there were the antecedents that suggested aprecedent infectious disease. The mean duration of the clinical manifestation was 14 days (7 to 28 days).Abdominal and articular symptoms occurred in 60% and 40% of the patients respectively and preceded thecutaneous manifestations in 40%of the cases. Evidence of renal compromise was observed in 19%of the cases, butno patients showed deterioration of their renal function during follow-up. Muscular manifestations occurred in 3patients and one case showed neurological symptoms. Oral steroids were effective in the treatment of severeabdominal pain and were given for no less than seven days.(Keywords: Schonlein-Henoch syndrome, symptoms, signs, laboratory a...

Attempts to merge citizen science with schooling must call not only for a democratization of schooling and science but also for the democratization of the ways in which science is taken up by, with, and for citizen participants. Using this stance, along with critical studies of place, I build on the criticisms of citizen science outlined in "Th e Future of Citizen Science" to argue for the centrality of place. Using a case of urban youths working toward transparency and cross-cultural dialogue regarding energy production in their community, I complicate the proposed immersion model to suggest a further reconstruction of citizen science in ways that account for youths' deep and critical connections to the geohistorical and sociocultural dimensions of place.

The study examined intergenerational interactions between seniors and teenagers during their participation in an afterschool art program. Seniors were chosen from a list of 100 persons registered for Meals-on-Wheels, and teenagers chosen were primarily from the same neighborhood. The research described, analyzed, and interpreted interactions between the young students and older participants during the programs three components: oral history, art making, and social service. All activities contributed to the formation of relationships between teens and seniors. Collecting oral histories and making art works intensified the exchange of personal history and culture, reduced age-related stereotypes, and empowered young and older participants. Intergenerational exchanges during art making provided a relaxed, unintimidating setting, and art tr...

My first personal encoWlter with the Lower East Harlem commWlity began when I crossed 96th Street, an informal boundary separating its decaying tenements and public housing projects from the newer, more prosperous neighborhood to the south. I soon realized that there was no need for a line on the map indicating the division between Manhattan and Harlem. And referring to a travel guide of New York City, I noticed that it listed no restaurants, hotels, or shopping highlights above %th Street. Subway tracks emerged above ground and loomed over Central Harlem's neighborhoods. The only new building in the vicinity north of %th Street was the impressive Muslim Mosque. A mixture of fear and compassion swept through me as I entered the economically struggling neighborhood of primarily Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, and African Americans. I viewed an area punctuated by deserted buildings with barred or bricked-in windows, and walls covered with gang graffiti or murals in tribute to youthful victims of crime. In front of one row of tenements, stuffed animals dangled from the limbs of a tree like pendulant fruit. One teenage informant

After a four-week placebo run-in phase, the patients received either 2.5mg ramipril or 10mg enalapril once daily for four weeks. The dosages were increased to 5mg ramipril and 20mg enalapril for a further four weeks. After a placebo washout phase of four weeks, the patients were crossed over to the alternative treatment. The decrease in average 24-hour ambulatory diastolic blood pressure from week 0 to week 8 was 1.6mmHg greater with ramipril than enalapril (90% confidence interval 0.6-2.7mmHg). The corresponding reduction in for systolic blood pressure was also greater with ramipril than enalapril by 2.4mmHg (90% confidence interval: 0.5-4.2mmHg). For the difference in the drop of 24-hour ambulatory diastolic blood pressure between ramipril and enalapril the lower level of the 90% confidence i...

The extraction experiments were carried out in a supercritical extraction pilot plant at pressures between 15 and 25 MPa and temperatures of 318 and 323 K. The extracts were analyzed by gas chromatography to evaluate the fatty acid composition profile. The extraction results show that the maximum extraction yield was achieved at 25 MPa and 323 K. The Peng-Robinson equation of state was used to predict the solubility of the vegetable oil (extract) in carbon dioxide. The van der Waals mixing rule with two binary interaction parameters was used. The influence of the system initial composition on solubility was studied. For this purpose, the gas-liquid equilibrium was predicted for a multicomponent mixture of fatty acids and carbon dioxide. The oil (extract) was assumed to be formed by the mixture of fatty acids. The gas-liquid equilibrium predicted was compared with the p...
