"On behalf of the Northern Suburbs, I
vrlsh to express the gratification we feel in
participating in this historic and momentous
ceremony," said Alderman H. L. Primrose,
Mayor of North Sydney. "It is tile realisation
of over a century's agitation and eöoit. We
rejoice that we are now directly linked with
tlie great city of Sydney, and we hope to share
with it the benefits which must result from
ready communication. From to-day on, a
continuous concourse of people and tiafitc will
flow between these kindred territories, bringing
about increased commerçai development and
activity. Vast tracts of country, yet un-
touched, will be opened up, ana new resi-
dential districts created, thus adding to tile
wealth of the community. The beauties and
advantages of the northern beaches will be
made accessible. The time requited for daily
travel will be considerably reduced, adding toi
the health and leisure of the people. I
"This bridge is a monument alike to our
enterprise and versatility. It has been made
to harmonise with its environment, and does
not impair the use of the harbour. It would
seem that nature, when blessing us with this
beautiful harbour, intentionally divided these
two shores for the purpose of testing the crea
Uve faculty of man. If that was the reason,
mun has pioved equal to the test, both In
conception and execution, and we pay our
homage to engineers and operatives alike. We
ure proud of their respective achievements."
