This is my chapter in the book: ;"Scholar and Kabbalist: The Life and Work of Gershom Scholem",... more This is my chapter in the book: ;"Scholar and Kabbalist: The Life and Work of Gershom Scholem", edited by Mirjam Zadoff and Noam Zadoff, Brill Publishers, Leiden and Boston, 2019, pp. 292-322. Utilizing a wide variety of images, the article explores the less famous side of Scholem's career - that of a librarian and book collector. It traces this side of his activity from his student days in Germany through the amassing of his magnificent personal library in Jerusalem and how that eventually became the Scholem Collection at the National Library of Israel. I analyze the connection between his library and his academic research and end with some of the recent major projects of the Scholem Collection at the NLI.
