Nordic Semiconductor is a Norwegian fabless semiconductor company specializing in wireless communication technology that powers the Internet of Things (IoT). Nordic was established in 1983 and has more than 1465 employees across the globe. Our award-winning Bluetooth Low Energy solutions pioneered ultra-low power wireless, making us the global market leader. Our technology range was later supplemented by ANT+, Thread and Zigbee, and in 2018 we launched our low power, compact LTE-M/NB-IoT cellular IoT solutions to extend the penetration of the IoT. We are ecstatic to launch the nRF54L Series with not one but three wireless SoCs: nRF54L15, nRF54L10, and nRF54L05! With the nRF54L Series, we are taking our popular nRF52 Series to the next level. You can now start your nRF54L Series evaluation and development! The nRF54L15 DK is available from our distributors (you can emulate nRF54L10 and nRF54L05 SoCs with the same DK). The datasheet and other technical documentation are now publicly available, and we have added the nRF54L15 to our online power estimation tool for evaluation purposes, the Online Power Profiler on DevZone. On November 14, the nRF Connect SDK and our development tools will support the nRF54L Series. To quickly get started with the nRF54L Series, the Nordic Developer Academy courses nRF Connect SDK Fundamentals and Bluetooth Low Energy Fundamentals will support the nRF54L15 SoC and nRF54L15 DK. “The launch of the nRF54L Series is a proud moment for Nordic Semiconductor. Introducing a solution for inefficient energy use in primary cell batteries; nPM2100! A Power Management IC specially designed to utilize as much of the stored energy in non-rechargeable batteries as possible. The nPM2100 PMIC prolongs the operating time per battery for primary (non-rechargeable) battery applications by managing energy resources using an ultra-efficient boost regulator and a wide range of energy-saving features. “Not all IoT products can rely on rechargeable batteries [...]. This means that primary batteries aren’t going away any time soon. By using the nPM2100, designers will be able to access much more of the energy stored in those primary cells, making products last longer between battery changes, or allowing the use of smaller batteries for the same battery life - resulting in more compact, lighter, and less expensive products.” Geir KjosavikSamples of the nPM2100 PMIC are available now. It comes in a compact 1.9 by 1.9 mm WLCSP and will later also be available in a versatile 4 by 4 mm QFN package. The nPM2100 is expected to be in full volume production during the first half of 2025. - We are thrilled to receive the world’s first new Thread 1.4 certification! The nRF54L15 SoC and nRF Connect SDK have been tested by Thread Group’s approved Authorized Test Laboratory and successfully obtained the certification. Our customers can inherit the Thread 1.4 certification, which is planned to be extended to relevant nRF52 and nRF53 Series SoCs. Our Thread 1.4 certification covers various device roles, including Full Thread Devices (router and end device), Minimal Thread Devices, Sleepy End Devices, Synchronous Sleepy End Devices, On-Mesh Commissioner, and Thread Joiner. The Thread libraries used for this certification are a part of the nRF Connect SDK v2.8.0 and v2.9.0. What is new in Thread 1.4? Extended diagnostics providing valuable troubleshooting tools. This aligns seamlessly with a defined path for Thread devices to connect to the internet and third-party services. For instance, it enables the collection of diagnostic data from devices or the implementation of staged firmware rollouts. For professional installers and those who create products for them, Thread Commissioning Over Authenticated TLS (TCAT) offers a convenient solution for fast and secure commissioning of large volumes of Thread devices. A certificate-based TLS session using a Bluetooth Low Energy link between a new Thread-based device and a commissioning tool e.g. smartphone or tablet provides strong security is. Border routers also receive a significant upgrade, allowing them to share credentials.
