Open Classroom Giant Rummage Sale Oct. 14th, 2005 @ 01:55 pm
green_jenni Salt Lake City's Open Classroom, an optional (and free program) in the Salt Lake City school district, will be having it's 6th annual rummage sale tomorrow (Saturday, October 15) from 8 am to 5 pm at Lowell Elementary School, which is located in the Avenues between D and E Streets, and 2nd and 3rd Avenue (approx. 400 E. and 100 N. in Salt Lake City). This is a huge sale of items donated from families in the OC, so there's lots of stuff for families and kids. In the past there's been lots of clothes, books, toys, electronic items, furniture for sale at bargain prices. This year will feature a bake sale and a "kiddie corral" for parents that would like to shop with out the kiddies. All the proceeds benefit the Open Classroom.(9 comments | Leave a comment)
long time no post... Aug. 11th, 2005 @ 10:23 am
angielove Hey guys. Haven't posted here in a long time but my son had something odd happen to him at the playground yesterday so I thought I'd share. I was taking my daughter on the slide and I overheard a kid on the swings with my son and he was asking him about school and my son was describing his school, has a big cross on it... and the kid says 'churches with crosses on them are bad'. How shallow is that to teach your kids? Really doesn't surprise me though. So I went over there and told him crosses on churches are not bad. That Jesus died on the cross for our sins to make it possible for us to be with God and that we need to be thankful for that. He was just looking at me like 'oh'. I told him he needs to ask his parents why they told him crosses are bad because they are not. He still played with my son, and I was glad. I certainly don't want to encourage the descrimination. We have to fight it! Educate the brainwashed children in the park!Current Mood: contemplativecontemplative (2 comments | Leave a comment)

Hey everyone! I just started an MSN group for non-traditional mommies in slc called Quirky Moms. Its super brand new and under construction, but i am looking for other women who might be interested in it. i know that since i don't go to church, its hard to find other mums in the area. i figured there might be other people who feel the same way. the site is:http://groups.msn.com/QuirkyMomsPlaygroupthanks!...........jess :)Feb. 5th, 2005 @ 09:16 pm(1 comment | Leave a comment)

I have run out of things to do with my son this summer. I only have one day off during the week (Wednesdays), in addition to the weekend. We have been to the zoo, the aviary, the park, the peace gardens, Wheeler Farm, etc., but now I am at a loss for activities. He is only 14 months old, so things like Lagoon are pretty much out of the question. What have all of you been doing with your kids this summer?Aug. 20th, 2004 @ 02:17 pm(2 comments | Leave a comment)
» Greetings!
I am so thrilled to have found this community. My name is Amanda & I have lived in Utah, off and on, for most of my life. I not mormon - I was raised Catholic & attended parochial school. I have a one-year-old son Luke & I am not married (I live with my partner of 10 years). I am just starting to reach out to other parents & start sociailizing, so it is great to find a group of locals who are not focused on the predominant religion!Jun. 22nd, 2004 @ 03:43 pm(12 comments | Leave a comment)

Hi there! I’m a student in Psychology and Education at Penn State, trying to get some early information for a study-to-be. Right now, I’m just collecting data to get a feel for the kinds of answers I’ll get by using certain questions (so i can set up a good questionairre for the actual study) and anything you’d send to me would be totally confidential. I’ve set up a survey with some questions about reading motivation in your kids and your reading behaviors at home. If you have the time, I’d be thrilled to hear from you! Thank you so much! PS: also, i'm sorry if this isn't allowed in this community, i wasn't certain - feel free to delete me if it's not allowed here. **( a quick questionairreCollapse )**May. 3rd, 2004 @ 02:29 pm(Leave a comment)
