However, the major drawback is being the poor flux estimation at very low speeds. A majority of flux observers have been proposed for flux estimation, but most of them fail to check in the lowspeed region. In this paper, to improve flux estimation at very low speeds, a sliding-mode stator flux observer is proposed. This observer does not require any speed adaptation mechanism unlike conventional flux observers and is immune to speed estimation error. A novel stator resistance estimator is incorporated into the sensor less drive to compensate the effects of stator resistance variation. DC-offset effects are reduced by introducing a small elemental component in the observer gains. Simulation results at very low speeds, including 0 and 2 r/min, without signal injection confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The control strategies considered are:-maximum torque control (ie maximum torque per ampere), maximum power factor control, maximum rate of change of torque control, maximum efficiency control and field weakening control.

In many power supplies, the feedback amplifier is supplied from the output voltage that creates additional feedback path which should be taken into account in the control design. The paper presents a detailed analysis and control design for each of the two possible feedback loops that can be identified. In addition, dynamic limitations of the TL431 shunt regulator and of the optocoupler are discussed. Practical guidelines for the error amplifier design and a design example are presented for both voltage-mode and current-mode controls.

A new software implementation of the control algorithm for conducting an instantaneous flux-linkage test is developed. A low frequency AC test allowing better estimation accuracy compared to a standard 50-Hz test is proposed. Effects of stator slotting on the quality of dc torque test estimates are examined.

Finally, the approach allows comparing SRM configurations for an application without performing complete designs. The magnetic loading (i.e., saturation) and torque of various SRM configurations designed using the proposed approach are verified through finite element analysis (FEA).

While the Direct Torque Control (DTC) method has been successfully applied to almost all conventional AC machines, it has not been considered so far as a potential mean for controlling doubly-excited systems. This paper attempts to fill in this gap, by exploring the principles and implementation aspects of Direct Torque Control (DTC) for the BDFRM. The presented results demonstrate good controller performance over the entire supply frequency range for the maximum torque per inverter ampere control strategy.

Three types of power devices are evaluated in the effort: high power bipolar or Darlington transistors, power MOSFETs, and asymmetric silicon control rectifiers (ASCR). The Bipolar transistors, including discrete device and Darlington devices, range from 100 A to 400 A and from 400 V to 900 V. These devices are currently used as key switching elements inverters for ac motor drive applications. Power MOSFETs ...
