Design/methodology/approach Using the interpretative phenomenological analysis approach, an in-depth study of postgraduate students’ accounts of their lived experiences is conducted. Findings Construction of entrepreneurial identity influences students’ entrepreneurial passion progression through a process of “identity ecdysis” that occurs deep within students’ microfoundations as they make sense of the entrepreneurial identity role while simultaneously accommodating their anticipated entrepreneurial life journey. During the transition stage, they begin to let go of their present personal identities and recast new ones based on the revised personal entrepreneurship action agenda. Th...

While numerous selected segments of the entrepreneurial community have undergone such ETPs successfully, a greenhorn segment of the creative economy industry known as the Malaysian arts culture entrepreneurs (ACEs) community is emerging. However, the current ETPs training needs analysis (TNA) instruments are considered too mainstream, disregarding the ACEs’ distinctive psychometric inventory, making the training process less appealing. As a result, this proposed study would update and improvise the current entrepreneurial psychometric assessment by capturing the psychometric inventory of ACEs that are distinct from the rest of the entrepreneurs’ community. This study will take a mixed-method approach. The proposed main study output is the ACE- Psychometric Inventory instrument, which c...

This chapter brings together thought leaders from both academia and industry to ensure a more holistic perspective on blockchain, both pros and cons. Primarily riding on the potential of the smart contract, this chapter expounds on the potential innovation that can be derived from blockchain. Simultaneously, this chapter expands on potential ideas that would bring value to mankind. It discusses how blockchain can be used to do social good and to rebuild trust between citizens, government, and more importantly, politicians. This could be achieved by rebuilding thrust through transparency and efficiency. While it is not without any drawback, suggested areas of future research were also proposed at the end of this chapter. This chapter also proposed a possible digital framework to be considered.

Young entrepreneurs prefer to choose sectors that are trendier and happening, such as food and beverages, technology, and services. Therefore, the motivation to become agropreneurs seems to be rather exclusive and is influenced by unknown factors. This study sought to examine the factors that influence the motivation of Malaysian youth to become agropreneurs. A survey method via self-administered questionnaires was used in this study. Data were collected from young agropreneurs from various states in Malaysia, who were asked about their motivations to start a business in the agriculture sector. Among the key motivators for the respondents to start their agro-based businesses were pursuing their dream, elevating their socio-economic status, and challenging themselves

As can be expected, many public policies foster the development of self- entrepreneurship in times of unemployment, praise the creation of firms and con- sider the willingness to start new ventures as a sign of good fortune. Are those behaviours inherent to a human being, to his genetic code, his psychology or can students, younger children or even adults be taught to become entrepreneurs? What should be the position of universities, of policy makers and how much does it matter for a country? This book presents several articles, following different research approaches to answer those difficult questions. The researchers explore in particular the psychology of entrepreneurship, the role of academia and the macroeconomic impact of entrepreneurship.

Design/methodology/approach This study uses a qualitative exploratory design using interpretative phenomenological analysis with a group of graduate students from a cross-disciplinary postgraduate entrepreneurship education program at an entrepreneurial university. Findings This study discovers that students’ EP experience is developed through the internalisation of an entrepreneurship learning activity into their personal identity through the harmonisation and reorganisation of their competing micro-identities of professional and entrepreneurial identity, prompting them to create a new identity that enables them to act ent...

The underlying objective of an entrepreneurship education programme (EEP) is to facilitate studen... more The underlying objective of an entrepreneurship education programme (EEP) is to facilitate students to becoming more passionate about entrepreneurship. This is done through the provision of a profound pedagogical learning experience while undergoing the entrepreneurial learning process. However, despite the rapid proliferation of EEP as the mainstream academic offering, previous literature argues that the current EEP delivery lacks the rigour and efficacy to provide a pedagogical experience that suits different personal identities that the students bring along into the classroom; thus, affecting their passion for entrepreneurship. In light of this, we review extensive literature related to entrepreneurial learning process, entrepreneurship education as well as the development of a passion for an activity. We also propose a theoretical framework of what may be missing in the current setup. We focus our discussion on the micro-foundation of the entrepreneurial learning process that occurs deep in the cognitive structure of individuals. Through the narrative literature review approach, we found that the lack of depth while the students validating their personal identity with the entrepreneurial learning activity affects the development of their passion for entrepreneurship. We offer refreshing insights into the importance of heuristic thinking, which embodies students' personal identity, and its interplay with the pedagogical experience during the entrepreneurial learning process. This is crucial in the promotion of a strong sense of identification with the entrepreneurial-related activity and deep affinity towards entrepreneurship. By recognising this missing element and linkage, the students will feel that their unique signature strength is being more appreciated, thus triggering a more intense reaction towards the learning stimuli. This is because they feel the profound recognition of their worthiness in the social circle as well as stronger belief about the mutual benefit between entrepreneurship and their ongoing personal life quest; which consequently allows their entrepreneurial passion to be further developed. This paper contributes to the underpinning insight of how entrepreneurial passion is developed, the way it can influence the interest of learning entrepreneurship in EEP and encourage the students to become more passionate about entrepreneurship.

Recent researches of workplace behavior suggest commitment as a division of motivation where both constructs affect performance and are distinct in its own forms. Even so, studies synchronizing these two constructs in the entrepreneurship literature, however, have yet to surface. The separate roles of commitment and motivation in the entrepreneurial process are still ambiguous. In this light, a review on studies relating commitment, motivation and entrepreneurial performance is documented. The paper ends with a hypothetical model conceptualizing the antecedents of entrepreneurial commitment as well as the relationships between entrepreneurial commitment, motivation and entrepreneurial performance. Our work contributes to the underdeveloped, yet much anticipated knowledge on entrepreneurial commitment, benefitting future empirical studies aimed at understanding commitment and its associations with motivation, particularly in the successful entrepreneur.

Also discussed in this section were the abilities and the characteristics of transformational leaders. The leadership section was concluded with discussion on previous researches on transformational leadership. This review also provides a literature review on organizational commitment. ABSTRACT Our paper aims to explore and reveal what, exactly, binds the successful entrepreneur to... more ABSTRACT Our paper aims to explore and reveal what, exactly, binds the successful entrepreneur to his/her desires to persevere and succeed; in other words, “what makes the successful entrepreneur affectively committed to superior entrepreneurial achievements?” In-depth interviews of six successful entrepreneurs were conducted. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis was applied to reveal the patterns and themes interpreted as affective entrepreneurial commitment. We find that affective commitment is the main component of commitment influencing entrepreneurial performance, and that passion in pursuing goals, coupled with positive inherited and learned values, and the possession of exceptional personality are found to positively influence the successful entrepreneurs’ aspirations to endure the challenges and unpredictable failures, showing how important it is to truly understand the mindset of the successful entrepreneur, specifically on the factors contributing to high levels of commitment. The finding paves ways for those directly involved in entrepreneurship development to boost entrepreneurial commitment by channeling the right curricula to prospective entrepreneurs, especially during their first years in business. Instilling passion, values and the right personality may perhaps contribute to the curricula ingredients. Those emotionally struggling with failure would find the curricula as a valuable foundation for guidance and psychological strength. Our work contributes to the underdeveloped, yet much anticipated knowledge on entrepreneurial commitment and may benefit future empirical studies aimed at understanding commitment, particularly in the successful entrepreneur.
