These protests, which gained significant national and international attention, underscore the widespread dissatisfaction with governance and economic hardships faced by the Nigerian populace. This paper delves into the immediate and remote causes of these protests, providing a comprehensive analysis of the socioeconomic and political contexts that have fueled public dissent. It highlights the interplay between immediate economic grievances, such as inflation and unemployment, and long-standing structural issues like historical governance failures, security challenges, and social inequities. The paper concludes by emphasizing the need for comprehensive reforms to address both the immediate economic issues and the underlying systemic problems in governance and social equity.
