FYI - Alternative Lifestyle (bowling) League Starts Up AGAIN !!
at August 8th, 2007 (09:50 am)
current mood: optimistic
A.L.L. (Alternative Lifestyle League) is a bowling league esp'ly for us. We are kinky, poly, pagan, GBLT, and most all "others" that want to come out for FUN. A.L.L. has operated in Charleston continuously since 2000 in short 13 or 20 week sessions. (Usually Fall 20wks + Spring 20wks + Summer 13wks = 3 sessions = one year of bowling with friends.)
A.L.L. bowls on Sunday evenings beginning at 7pm (usually we're done by 830-9ish).
(Hint: Most of us get there at 630pm, to get shoe'd & to find munchies and sodas)
At the End of Each Session (20 or 13 wk) all prizes are in CASH and are distributed TO EVERYONE WHO FINISHES the term. Prizes are pro-rated by team placement, but not just to 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place teams. THAT WAY EVERYBODY wins some at the end.
[You don't have to be "good bowlers" to have fun; in fact, a high handicap** is much sought after -- if you average 90-100 pins, you'll double that with your handicap! Also, we teach non-bowlers how to LOVE the game!!] **Handicap is points ADDED to your average. We use 100% of 200, so if you average 110, you have a handicap of 90.
A.L.L. is starting up our next (Fall/Winter) session on September 9th. <---THAT's really soon !! The Sunday one week AFTER Labor Day weekend.
We currently bowl at the AMF Lanes on Savannah Hwy (US 17) near Citadel Mall.
Total financial commitment for the term varies but weekly cost is around $10 plus shoe rental if needed. Bonus values: League bowlers play at "league practice rate" any other time of the week if there are lanes available -- works out to about 1/2 normal price!
If you want to bowl with a loving, fun, bunch of "different" people, join us next Sunday. We're not hard to find: we're the ones laughing alot!

Hey everybody, I came to Charleston about 8 months ago for the Navy's Nuclear Program. I really haven't discovered any favorite weekend spots since I just got a car a couple of weekends ago and usually spent much of my weekend studying (boring, I know). I have become a great fan of the waffle houses down here though since we don't have them up in Indiana.
I was a gamer back home and usually get some D&D action in when I go on leave since most of the people in my section down here don't appreciate gaming. I'm also a Norse pagan. Use to be a loner back home, sometimes here too, but its nice to have friendly faces around.
As for favorite places to gather, I like pretty much everything, the only thing that matters to me about location is if my friends are there, everything else is pretty much mute after that.
My purpose for joining this community... I'd have to say its because I had made a lot of good friends back home through local lj communities, I thought I would try and do the same here, can never have too many friends, right?
Gotta get out.

Hey guys... Proposition:
For those of you who are in the area, how about a get-together Friday evening?
I know Stewart and I are already planning a night out, but I'd like to see my friends too.
I'm thinking the Voodoo lounge at 17 & Magnolia sometime around 9ish. Sound good to anyone else?
Looking for RPG players
at October 10th, 2005 (04:36 pm)
Exalted is a role-playing game set in an ancient world, ruled over by a crumbling empire, into which the reborn champions of the Unconquered Sun have returned to set things straight after centuries of exile. Players take the part of a variety of Exalted, ordinary mortals made superhero by the gift of the Exalt essence, adventuring in a world that draws as much on Homeric myth as on modern animé. The mechanics reward players for performing awesome stunts, and characters have access to magical charms that enable superhuman feats and powerful sorcery. Everything is over the top—empires are expected to be toppled and rebuilt and gods are expected to be slain and reborn.
I'm looking for 4-6 players to play once every other weekend. Day and time to be determined according to the availability of players. All experience levels welcomed, whether you're an Exalted veteran or a complete newbie to the world of role-playing. If interested feel free to contact me via email or phone.
* I'm definitely more of a role-play focused storyteller, than a "roll-play" type.

Interested in rpgs?
at September 5th, 2005 (09:54 am)
I've decided to attempt to teach people how to RP. Well, how to play a pencil/paper RPG anyway. Suprisingly when I posted to local communities I had a majority of the comments & emails I recieved say something along the lines of "Don't know how to help you, but that sounds like fun. Are you willing to teach people?"
So Yes, In September, when I return from leave I'm going to teach some people how to play. I'm going to start with Exalted because the rules are pretty simple (a lot easier to learn and follow than AD&D would be for beginners, I'm guessing).
For those in the area, whether you're new to RPGs or not, what do you say? Wanna join? Just drop me an email and include what your schedule would be like, so I can plan a time when as many as possible are available. (madoraAT gmail. com)

Don't forget about getting together Sunday night at the Voodoo Lounge in West Ashley.
I expect we'll make 10 pm our basic time to get there, though I'll likely get there earlier.
If any of you need info about how to get there, you can give me a ring on my cell 442-8257 or Mapquest it.
So who all's planning to attend?

Anyone interested in getting together maybe next Sunday night? Monday is Labor Day so most should have that day off. I'm thinking Voodoo in West Ashley. Who all is game?
ok, i've put this off long enough...

1. Favorite weekend night destination and why:
My husband and I have lived here for a year now, and we've just started venturing out and such...having an 11 year old doesn't make the weekends all that exciting and party party party. When we do get the opportunity to get out, we have been doing dinner at Vickerys in Mount P...and when we go out with friends we hit the Village Tavern or ACs.
2. Subcultures or genres that interest you:
Well, we run a porn site (well, pin up style)...so obviously we enjoy all aspects of that lifestyle, but we're not freaky about it.
I'm a horror movie geek and my husband is a comic book geek...we're both covered in geeky tattoos and we have an equally geeky kid. ;-)
3. Favorite place that caters to your lifestyle (can be a shop, cafe, restaurant, bar, etc.):
I'm a coffee snob (3 years in the biz will do that to ya)...so anywhere that I can get a GOOD cup of coffee or a well made latte makes me happy. I'm a big fan of Meritage as well...that was the first restaurant we went to when we moved here, so it's definitely a favorite of ours (and I love their wine selection).
4. What is your purpose for joining this community?
Always good to make new friends. We don't get out much, and we're not crazy party people...but when the kid is at a friends house for the evening, it's nice to be able to make a few phone calls and get a few people together for some drinks and good conversation.

I'm gonna ring in as the third (?) person who has not yet experienced this Voodoo Lounge of which you speak. Group get-together? Next Friday night, maybe? Probably too short of notice to do it tonight, but I'm not busy. I'm thinking 8pm or 9pm but I'm very flexible, so suggest away!
-AND-
Anyone want to have some very silly fun? I propose an afternoon of Mini Golf at Frankie's Fun Park. If you think Mini Golf doesn't sound like much fun, then you've never played with a bunch of freaks. Even better if you don't know them - trust me on this! How about Saturday 9/3 around 2pm? If you know of a better place to play, feel free to suggest an alternative - this is just the first listing I found.
