Everyone's recovery is unique, and for many Ukrainian veterans, pétanque (a popular local sport similar to lawn bowling) has become an important and unexpected part of their healing journey.

In May, despite air-raid sirens, heavy rain, hail, and sudden sunshine, 32 teams from across Ukraine came to Kryvyi Rih for the Eastern Region Pétanque Tournament, competing for a place in the national championship.

Pétanque for Veterans is a rehabilitation program supported by Nova Ukraine and the Ukrainian Association for Health Protection Marlog-Caducei, built on the belief that sport and community are essential to recovery and that veterans deserve a structured, welcoming space to reconnect with life beyond their service.

Stay tuned for more tournaments this summer!

This summer break and all year long, kids in the Ukrainian town of Rivne can now step into the conductor’s shoes and help run a railroad!

Nova Ukraine, with support from The Howard G. Buffett Foundation, transformed the Children’s Railway in western Ukraine by supporting the modernization of its train and providing modern classroom equipment, where children gain real, hands-on experience learning how a railway operates.

On the opening day, more than 1,500 kids and families came to celebrate! With summer break here, we can't wait to see the smiles on kids' faces all season long.

Water rescue operations often occur in cold water, with poor visibility, strong currents, and conditions where every second counts.

In May, Nova Ukraine delivered 20 modern wetsuits to first responders as part of our continued support for Ukraine’s State Emergency Service. Deliveries like these help strengthen emergency response capacity at a time when resources are stretched thin. They also support the adoption of higher standards and better equipment for rescue teams working in some of the most challenging conditions.

When rescuers enter the water, they need equipment they can trust. These wetsuits provide critical protection and help emergency teams carry out complex rescue operations.

The largest man-made disaster in Europe since Chernobyl.

On June 6, 2023, Russia blew up the Kakhovka Dam in southern Ukraine.
80+ settlements were flooded.

850,000+ people were left without access to water.

The full consequences are still difficult to assess, as part of the affected territory remains under Russian occupation.

Nova Ukraine has been working on water access projects since the start of the Russia’s full-scale invasion, helping local communities regain access to safe drinking water.

To date, 44+ projects have been completed, including water treatment stations, water towers, and solar-powered systems.
