Climate-friendly homes & resilient livelihoods, for people and planet ๐
About us
Build up Nepal is an award-winning social enterprise that constructs climate-friendly homes and creates resilient livelihoods, to uplift marginalised communities and protect our planet. ๐ Nepal is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world. Many marginalised families dream of living in a safe, brick house, but cannot afford it. The fired brick industry is also a major polluter. ๐ก Our locally-led model supports micro-enterprises to produce climate-friendly bricks and build disaster-resilient homes that are greener, cheaper and safer. We have supported more than 300 micro-enterprises, built over 10,000 homes and created 2,200 jobs, while cutting 100,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions in the process. ๐ By 2030, we want to go further and scale to other disaster-prone countries, to make our dream of universal access to safe housing, and a world that's free of fired bricks, a reality. ๐

How do you rebuild 79,000 homes? You do it one eco-brick at the time. The reconstruction in Jajarkot & Rukum will require 355 million bricks. Lets use eco-friendly bricks to avoid a climate disaster.Build up Nepal #ecobrick #Jajarkot #buildbackbetter -

Resilient livelihoods uplift communities. The Build up Nepal model created 1,674 jobs in eco-brick production and construction last year. 28% of employees were women, which is helping to promote an inclusive construction industry. Itโs vital that men and women have equal access to job opportunities, which support families, and strengthen rural communities. ๐ ๐ Read our latest impact report: https://lnkd.in/drEdXvXi -

โWe believe that one must experience darkness to truly appreciate the beauty of the rising sun.โ โ Todayโs inspiration comes from the Guras IPM Womenโs Group, founded by determined Build up Nepal entrepreneurs who overcame societal constraints to make a difference through their #CSEB enterprise. Hereโs their storyโฆ โIn 2022, we received an interlocking brick-making machine and ventured into manufacturing bricks. Despite the initial lack of support from our families, 20 determined women came together, pouring our hearts and souls into building this enterprise. We formed a women's group to save our earnings and reinvest them wisely. Within a year, our efforts bore fruit, and we built six houses in our community. Gradually, the perceptions of women began to change. Those who once doubted and criticised us, now praised our hard work and determination. Our journey is a testament to the power of unity and perseverance, proving that women can rise above societal constraints and achieve remarkable success." ๐ธ Guras IPM Group pictured by CERAD, King's College Nepal - There's so much to like about these photos. ๐ We're building safe homes for 23 vulnerable families impacted by last year's earthquake. And, we're training female masons to build with our interlocking eco-brick technology, because we believe in an inclusive and sustainable construction sector. Thanks to our fantastic partners, IOM - UN Migration and Community Impact Nepal, who make the Joint Recovery Action Plan in west Nepal possible. It feels good to #buildbackbetter. ๐ก
