As this article exemplifies, the book refutes the claim that psychoanalysis is conservative with regard to the question of sexual orientation and demonstrates the audacity of psychoanalysis in allowing each subject to determine her position, man or woman alike. Marie-Hélène Brousse is an Analyst Member of the Ecole de la Cause Freudienne and the New Lacanian School.

In order to support this proposition, he created a type of theatre capable of inducing trance and hypnotizing the spectator by means of a propitious articulation of semblants rather than by the contents of verbal discourse. Joyce did something similar with his writing. They were quite different from Plato.

St. Paul, "the founder of universalism," said it when he defined his mission: "to preach (apostolēn) in his [Jesus'] name obedience to the faith among all nations." 1 The faith is an order, and the one who follows it will be rewarded with the right to enter the universal city. In order to guarantee participation in this glorious future, we should do nothing that will push us into the present order of things. "The city of man" goes in a unique and revolutionary directiontowards its annulment and its transformation into the city of God. In order to go in the direction of history, to participate in it fully, man must submit his spirit to the order. He must believe in what Paul says to him.

It is starting from this turning that I would like to situate two slopes of the relationship between science and psychoanalysis. The first slope would consist in making use of the criteria admitted by the philosophy of science or epistemology to know if psychoanalysis answers the criteria deemed to qualify a science. Lacan, on this point, questioned French epistemology, as qualified by the names of Bachelard, Canguilhem and Foucault, to test the validity of the deemed criteria. The other slope questions the place of the discourse of science, in making emerge the position of the scientist as a symptom in civilisation. It is starting from this seesaw that I will locate the statute of knowledge in the 21st century, founded not only on the demonstration as such, but on the so-called "evidence" that provides statistical correlations. The epistemological tradition gives way to a questioning on the "subject of science", whereas the statistical series does not even permit the question to be posed any more.
