However, it is a subject with a high failure rate, and mathematics anxiety is common, also in STEM. To provide students with a working knowledge of mathematics valuable for a computer engineer, learning experiences should promote conceptual understanding of mathematical ideas and the ability to discuss mathematical problems and solutions. Collaborative learning may promote such learning outcomes. In this study, we investigate the use of a modified team based learning (TBL) approach in a second year mathematics course. The implementation aimed to promote collaborative learning through group work, but did not include formalized peer assessment and competition between groups. Six students were interviewed in depth about their experiences from the course. The study sheds light on the balance between providing flexibility to accommodate students’ individual needs and preferences, and imposing the structure needed to achieve t...

Even though hearing aids can contribute to increased quality of life, actual usage has proven to be problematic and limited. This preliminary explorative study has been carried out in order to get an initial understanding about sharing of hearing-lossrelated information, both in terms of how information is shared as well as what kind of information is shared. We conducted four sub-studies with peer members of an interest group and people visiting relevant online resources, and combined the use of questionnaire, semi-structured interview, online observation and short survey. While our results are preliminary, they suggest that current information sharing practices are fragmented regarding both the content that is shared as well as which actors and media are involved, and the Internet as a multifunctional arena is underutilized. Finally, some possible directions for further research are outlined.

Inthe bachelor setting, an interdisciplinary approach is fruitful for revealing and addressing the need forbridging the knowledge and culture gaps that most innovative processes in working life will entail. However, achieving engaged participation from two diverse students groups, without giving grades, requires that the setup pays careful attention to countering both distracting factors and includes up frontpreparations on how to deal with diversity. We report on our experiences from five plus years ofInnovation camps for Biomedical Laboratory Science & Computer Engineering BA students.

But though our modern hospitals are infused with technologies of every kind, our visions of seamless integration and pervasively flawless healthcare do not match to the patchy images of ICT-assisted healthcare provision attested by patients, healthcare personnel or authorities when they describe their own experiences of healthcare services, with or without ICTs. A few examples where ...

Using interpretative qualitative methods we document an extensive but "invisible" manual and distributed quality assurance among the involved health care providers. We call for selective automation of medication use processes in this setting as these distributed, highly manual micro-practices are vital to quality assurance in practice.

Our approach is to include both healthcare workers and those working with health ICT in our educational program so that they may to learn together. The aim is to harness relevant experiences through reflection and learning both during their studies and in their future work practices.

This paper looks at how they learn from each other by building and sharing knowledge across time and space. To illustrate this, we first present Community of Practice (CoP) as a way of understanding collaborative work which puts focus on the community and its social interaction. CoP, introduced by Lave and Wenger (1991), is based on the fundamental belief that dividing theory from practice is unsound. Hence CoP contradicted traditional theories of learning, where learning and working often are conceived as separate processes. Using Orr’s (1996) rendition of service technician’s work, it is shown that stories act as repositories of accumulated wisdom in keeping track of facts, sequences and their context. Representations made by a CoP to aid their work, are termed Reifications which can be stories, tools, artefacts etc. Practice is seen as a duality of Parti...

The theoretical notion of e-infrastructure is explored and compared to the ambitions and status of eHealth as advocated in Europe and Norway. The Internet’s quality of generativity is seen as central to its evolution. This evolution has brought it close to a digital equivalent of such canonical infrastructures as railways or electricity. Thus, to enable a true infrastructure, both eHealth’s strategies and its backbone technologies should enable generativity, allowing a leveraging of third parties for its evolution. The answers from a simple survey given 60 professionals taking a university introductory course in Health Informatics demonstrates that the practical motivation is there, for inclusive, middle out development strategies. 1

Given the urgency, the desired scope and reach of systems we deduce that continuing education in health informatics is needed within the sector, both for healthcare workers and those working with health ICT. This would contribute in a socio-technical fashion to harness relevant experiences through reflection and learning. With implicated actors participating, gaining and disseminating insights from practice and its research, the odds for strategic informed innovation and eHealth use would improve.
