Particular emphasis is put on how thermalism and cultural heritage are perceived, represented and promoted in the spas' websites, and on how the comparison between the spas' digital and physical identities reveals challenges that lie at the core of thermalism development in a time of economic crisis and paradigm change in communication, cure and recreation.

This factor has had a decisive impact on its approaches to religious tourism so far. The model of religious pilgrimage, especially in rural areas, is based on excursions to particular religious centers on local saints' days rather than on religious itineraries, as is the case in other countries where routes such as that of Santiago de Compostela or Via Francigena have been traced for a long time. On the other hand, the route along St. Paul's travels in Greece is growing in international appeal, with various travel agencies active in the field. The chapter focuses on describing existing infrastructure along St. Paul's route, on its possible linkage to various forms of tourism as well as to the development of a hiking route along Via Egnatia (patly covering St.Paul's itinerary), and on the impact this will have on rural communities in terms of opportunities offered for local societi...

The authors draw from their experience in the use of e-learning modules in the context of Erasmus+ projects focusing on adult/VET education on cultural heritage, and suggest an e-learning approach that focuses on personification, modularity and interactivity. As the authors argue, the above three concepts are particularly important for aiding an adult audience understand and implement basic notions of cultural heritage management and enhancement as well as for introducing them in the world of digital cultural heritage. The paper examines possibilities of employing methodologies which will induce personified and interactive knowledge for the creation of e-learning platforms for digital cultural heritage adapted to the needs of diversified target groups. Such e-learning platforms become more and more a necessary counterpart to several digitization projects, as many agents responsible for cultural heritage management and enhancement do not necessarily possess all the skills needed for accomplishing such projects. Therefore, they should be diversified, adaptable to different realities and include various levels as well as stages of self-assessment of users’ needs and self-evaluation of users’ accomplishment.

The authors’ intention is to discuss bathing in thermal springs as a sociocultural practice deeply rooted in history and collective experience (Erfurt-Cooper & Cooper, 2009), to follow its transformations in the course of time, and to analyze the complexity of its present state. The latter issue, which is dealt with in more detail, is explored through academic literature, the evaluation of quantitative and qualitative data, and empirical research. The last part of the paper discusses the conclusions of our study of the Greek case with a view to contributing to the overall assessment of popular thermalism in Europe.
