Nigeria's federalism is characterized by inter-ethnic rivalry and religious intolerance, unfair distribution of income, the question of minorities and state creation as well as the question of division. These factors have posed serious threats on the nation's federalism as it conflicts unity in diversity. Issues such as the challenge of history, arbitrary military intervention in governance, the challenge of socioeconomic inequality, the minority question, etc. are identified as the challenges facing nation-building in Nigeria. The paper recommends fostering factual federalism in the area of revenue sharing and derivation principle, and resource control so as to alleviate the fears of the minority, strengthening federal character principle, setting up strong institutions that ensure the development of the various part of the country as well as the need on the part of leadership to showcase policies of good governance that will bring about a fundamental re-definition and restructuring of the Nigerian federal structure to accommodate the many proclivities of her diverse constituting interests.

The various sources of foreign capital considered were foreign direct investment, external debt, official development assistance/aid, and remittances. In executing the study, we utilized the Fisher Cointegration test, panel autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) approach, fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS) approach, and the Pairwise Dumitrescu Hurlin Panel Causality Test as techniques of analysis. Findings of the study revealed that there exists a long-run relationship and causal relationship between all the external capital sources and economic growth. Further, the result of the ARDL model indicated that all the external capital sources exerted a positive and significant long-run effect on economic growth. It follows from the findings of this study that external capital sources could be a veritable source of capital in stimulating the long-run economic growth of the two countries, as it will help in bridging the saving-investment gap which is sacrosanct for investment and growth.

Data were obtained from the World Bank, and the index of globalization was the KOF Globalization Index. Unemployment was defined as a function of globalization (overall, economic, political, and social) and inflation. The study employed a unit root test, Fisher cointegration test, error correction mechanism, and Dumitrescu-Hurlin Granger causality test. The unit root test revealed that the variables were integrated of order I(0) and I(1) and the cointegration test presented evidence of a long-run relationship. Findings from the VECM revealed that globalization leads to an insignificant decrease in unemployment in the short run but will lead to a significant increase in the long run. It was also discovered that economic globalization reduces unemployment significantly in the short run. The Dumitrescu-Hurlin test revealed that there is no causality between political globalization and unemployment, while economic and social globalization exhibited a bidirectional causality with unemployment. The paper concludes by stating that the economic dimension of globalization should be encouraged as it will help in reducing unemployment in the region in the short run. Keywords: Globalization, Unemployment, West Africa, Cointegration, Panel Data, VECM.
