Drill-hole water from the Kontinentale Tiefbohrung (KTB) is measured simultaneously with a Ge(Li)-detector and with CR-39 SSNTD. The track density of CR-39 is counted and can be correlated with the alpha-activity of the sample.

The concentration has been measured in various locations • . 3 of the houses. The geometric mean of radon concentratlon comes out 29-+14 Bq/m for bed rooms, 28+11 Bq/m-for sitting rooms and 33-+16 Bq/m ~ for stores. The minimum and maximum value of radon ' 3 3 . concentration found from all the rooms, is II Bq/m and 83 Bq/m , respectively. KEYWORDS 22ZRn; CN-85; box type dosimeter; plastic envelope; track density; conversion factor.

Both CR-39 and CN-85 detectors were installed in bed rooms, kitchens and drawing rooms of the chosen houses and were exposed to radon and its daughters over a period of about four months. All the exposed detectors were processed employing the optimized etching conditions. Significant variation in radon concentration has been observed in the houses under investigation.

These detectors have been tested for the detection of fission fragments and alpha particles. Etch track parameters such as (a) cone angle, (b) etching veloclty along the track, (c) the general etching velocity, and (d) the etch pit diameter, were determined by using both optical and scanning electron microscopes. These studies were aimed at fabricating an efficient CR-39 track detector for fast neutron dosimetry.

The CR-39 detectors have been used for the determination of track densities due to alpha particles emitted in the decay of radon from the cements enclosed in cans of equal diameters. The results have been compared with those obtained by others.

We irradiated the detectors with monoenergetic protons (from 0.6 MeV to 6 MeV), 12 MeV deuterons and 24 MeV alpha particles at normal incidence. We found that protons, deuterons and alpha particles, in the energy range studied, are registerable in CR-39 when etched chemically. Track diameter measurements indicate that the proton track diameter is dependent on its incidence energy. The energy spread in the particle beam appeared in terms of spread in their track diameters. Theoretically calculated ranges of protons, alpha particles and carbon and oxygen recoils in CR-39, produced as a result of neutron interactions (in the neutron energy range of 0.i MeV to 20 MeV) are also presented.

Most have been reported in young females of Asian Descent. The long term complication of choledochal cysts includes malignant transformation in the epithelial lining of biliary tree. Histopathologically it is Cholangiocarcinoma in the majority of cases with poor long-term prognosis. However, Rhabdomyosarcoma associated with choledochal cyst in an adult is rarely reported before. The authors report one such case in an adult female patient who presented to us with features of obstructive jaundice.
