NYC/NJ Goth/Industrial Outings (original) (raw)

Dorian’s Parlor

is a celebration of the Steampunk aesthetic, which blends history with the future and adds a healthy dose of what might have been. Patrons dance, sip cocktails, enjoy hors d'oeuvres and partake in a one-of-its-kind lineup of bands, DJs, dancers and high fashion from the foremost neo-vintage designers. Dorian’s Parlor is fast becoming a household name for those who love Steampunk and all things neo-vintage.

The June lineup features the return of the delightful Psyche Corporation, which is “one part cyberpunk trip-hop darkwave music, one part robotics exhibition, one part dreamscape art.” The much-loved White Elephant Burlesque Society returns as well with a gypsy cabaret full of vaudevillian burlesque Dorian’s Parlor also features New-England based band Jaggery, an art-rock collective which weaves instruments such as harp, viola, piano, contrabass, and drum kit with other-worldly vocal stylings. For something a little out of the ordinary, check out Walter Sickert and The ARmy of BRoken TOys, described as “a Dada-esque circus carnival run amuck.” This month’s fashion show will feature the delightful designs of Jeximé, and Tsirkus Fotografika’s RA Friedman will present the project’s most memorable and intriguing portraits and discuss his unorthodox photo methodology.

The next 21+ event will be held Saturday, June 4th, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., in the Ormandy Ballroom of the DoubleTree Hotel, on the Avenue of the Arts in downtown Philadelphia. Admission is $25, and includes a drink ticket and hors d’oeuvres.

05 January 2011 @ 11:10 pm

If you haven’t had a chance to check out Dorian’s Parlor yet, you should definitely put “Attend January’s Event” at the top of your list of New Year’s Resolutions. A monthly Steampunk event held at Ormandy Ballroom of the Doubletree in downtown Philadelphia, Dorian’s Parlor embodies the very spirit of the New Year. It takes the old – fashions, ideas, etiquette, food, games, music – and reinvents them to create something shining-new and daring, bold and enticing. There is a sense of excitement and nostalgia in the air as patrons come together to dance, sip cocktails, enjoying hors d'oeuvres and partake in a one-of-its-kind lineup of bands, DJs, circus performances and high fashion from the foremost neo-vintage designers. This is one resolution that you’re sure to enjoy keeping.

The next 21+ event will be held Saturday, January 22nd, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., in the Ormandy Ballroom of the DoubleTree Hotel, on the Avenue of the Arts in downtown Philadelphia. Admission is $25, and includes a drink ticket and hors d’oeuvres.

Hope to see you there,

Introducing the next Dorian's Parlor Event. Dandies mingle with aristocrats and daring explorers while sipping cocktails, enjoying hors d'oeuvres and partaking in a one-of-its-kind lineup of bands, DJs, circus performances and high fashion from foremost neo-vintage designers. They spill onto the sidewalk outside the Ormandy Ballroom and take over late-night food spots, attracting curious looks from passers by. Who are these mysterious people from another era?

Dorian’s Parlor is a monthly convergence of Steampunk and neo-vintage enthusiasts, a sensuous spectacle of vintage glamour highlighting the best of Philadelphia’s alternative culture. Steampunk is a fast-growing cultural phenomenon which melds Victorian aesthetics with modern (and sometimes futuristic) technology to create a fantastic spectacle of fashion, art, music and literature.

November’s lineup includes the immensely popular band Ego Likeness, DJ Johanna Constantine and a fashion show from the delectable Philadelphia's Delicious Boutique. Steampunk author G.D. Falksen will MC, the Royal Baritarian Players will perform, and an animated film by Adriel Garcia will be featured. Opera singer, Katie Kat (who trained with Maria Callas's voice coach and local soprano Trisha Kotch) is also on the play bill. Young adult Steampunk author Dianne K. Salerni will be in attendance as well, reading excerpts from her newest work. All aspects of the event’s production — lighting, sound, stage design and production management — are provided by Philadelphia’s own CircuitSix, LLC (www.circuitsix.biz) as part of their ongoing sponsorship and patronage of Dorian's Parlor.

The next 21+ event will be held Saturday, November 27th, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., in the Ormandy Ballroom of the DoubleTree Hotel, on the Avenue of the Arts in downtown Philadelphia. Admission is $25, and includes a drink ticket and hors d’oeuvres.

Me and a friend are coming to NYC May 1-3 , most likely. I am TRYING to find a club night that is not 21 +..She is 19. Only thing I found, was Absolution, which their site says is closed down.

Is there any goth club 18+ avaliable?

If not, what types of "gothy" things are avaliable? I havent been to NYC in 10 years...

Thanks!
